COLUMBUS, OHIO – Maryland (20-13, 5-2 B1G) took down Ohio State (17-16, 2-8 B1G), 7-5 to begin a three-game weekend set at Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
The Terps reached the 20-win mark for the 37th time in program history and for the 12th-straight full season, including all five full seasons under head coach Rob Vaughn.
Matt Shaw delivered the knockout blow for the Terps in the top of the eighth inning, a three-run homer that put Maryland up, 7-3. It was his 41st home run of his Maryland career, putting him sole possession of second-place in program history. It was also his 12th homer of the season and his 35 RBI are second on the team. He also had three runs scored in the win.
Luke Shliger led off the game with his fourth leadoff homer of the season and seventh of his career for Maryland. It was his eighth homer of the season for the Terps and he now has 29 RBI as well.
Henry Kaczmar was the offensive backbone for Ohio State, recording all three RBI for the Buckeyes with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth and a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the Maryland lead to 4-3.
Jason Savacool was masterful on the mound for the Terps, recording another quality start as he gave up one run in six innings of work, striking out seven.

- Shliger got things started in the top of the first with his fourth leadoff homer of the season, giving the Terps a 1-0 lead.
- An Hacopian walk and wild pitch allowed Shaw to score, doubling Maryland's lead at 2-0 in the top of the third inning.
- Kaczmar homered to right field in the bottom of the fourth to put Ohio State on the board, cutting the lead to 2-1.
- Hacopian drove in Shaw with an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to add to Maryland's lead at 3-1.
- A safety squeeze from Martin allowed Petrutz to score, making it 4-1 Terps in the fifth.
- Kaczmar doubled home two for the Buckeyes in the bottom of the seventh inning, cutting the Maryland lead to 4-3.
- Shaw gave Maryland some cushion in the top of the eighth with a three-run homer down the right field line, putting the Terps up, 7-3.
- Okuley singled up the middle in the bottom of the ninth, scoring two to cut Maryland's lead to 7-5.
