COLLEGE PARK, MD – Second-seeded and 12th-ranked Maryland beat seventh-seeded Ohio State, 11-7, to advance to the 2023 Big Ten Tournament Semifinals. The Terps will take on No. 6 seed Rutgers at 6 p.m., in Columbus, Ohio, in a game that will air on Big Ten Network on Thursday, May 4. A rematch of last season's conference championship game.

Cathy Reese. "Proud of our team for coming away with a win. Really great day on the draw, Shay was in control all day. Looking forward to go to Columbus next weekend and play Rutgers in the semifinals."
Maryland improved to 13-5 overall overall while the Buckeyes finish their season at 5-12.
Libby May scored four goals, including her 50th of the season as she posted her 27th career hat trick.
Kori Edmondson and
Kate Sites each netted two goals.
After posting a school-record eight assists in the previous meeting with Ohio State this season, Eloise Clevenger had five assists for a total of 12 assists against the Buckeyes this season.
Shaylan Ahearn and Chrissy Thomas each had a goal and assist for the Terps. Shannon Smith also scored for the Terps.
Ahearn recorded the 300th draw control of her career in the win to become the fourth Terp to ever reach the milestone. Maryland dominated at the draw all afternoon, winning 19-of-22, including winning the first nine of the game. Ahearn won eight draws
In the goal, Emily Sterling made 10 saves, allowing just six goals.
Caly O'Brien led the Buckeyes with three goals.
Breaking Down The Action
- Maryland scored two goals in the first 1:23 as Ahearn and Edmondson tallied early goals. Ohio State evened the game on a free-position goal by Annie Hargraves with 6:47 left in the first quarter. The Terps reeled off the next three goals to finish the quarter with Sites, Edmondson and May scoring goals to put Maryland up 5-2 after 15 minutes.
- In the second quarter, Ohio State scored two of the first three goals to creep back within two goals, at 6-4. Thomas' rebound goal off her own shot that went off the goalpost put the Terps up 7-4 heading into halftime.
- Ohio State scored two of the three goals in the third quarter to draw within two at 8-6. May scored the Terps' only goal of the period.
- Sites and May each scored in the fourth to give the Terps a 10-6 lead.

- Maryland is now 12-3 all-time in the Big Ten Tournament and has made the championship game in every season except for 2015.
- The Terps have four Big Ten Tournament championships, winning in three straight seasons from 2016-18 and last season, 2022.

- Ahearn became the fourth Terp in history to post 300 career draw controls with eight in the game to give her 301 in her career. Next on the list is No. 3 Lizzie Colson, who had 324 from 2017-21. The all-time time draw controls record is held by Taylor Cummings, who had 509 from 2013-16.
- Sterling holds stead at seventh in career saves with 10 in the game. She now has 465. Next up is No. 6 Brittany Dipper, who had 490 from 2009-12. The all-time saves record is held by Alex Kahoe, who had 968 from 1997-2000.
- When it comes to single-season charts, Clevenger moved to a tie for ninth on the all-time single-season assists lists with four in the game to give her 44 this season to tie with Kelly Kaspar (44 in 2008). She's passed Quinn Carney (43 in 2000). Next up is Sarah Mollison with 45 in 2011.

- Clevenger (five assists) had her 13th multi-point game this season and 11 multi-assist games this year. In her career, she now has 30 multi-point games and 20 multi-assist games.

- Head Coach Cathy Reese enters her 17th season at the helm of Maryland women's lacrosse. The winningest coach in program history, Reese is 314-39 as head coach and has led the Terps to five National Championships, 12 Final Fours and 22 Conference Championships.
