Terps Fall to Nebraska, 3-0, Despite Commendable Effort By Wyche

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland lost 3-0 to Nebraska in the first game of their weekend series. Strong pitching from both teams limited scoring between these well-matched Big Ten rivals. With the result, the Terps moved to 26-11 (3-6 BIG) and the Huskers moved to 26-12 (6-3 BIG).

Courtney Wyche threw her fifth complete game of the season, spinning five strikeouts and only giving up five hits.

Despite putting two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, a lucky two-run shot in the fourth inning gave Nebraska a lead that Maryland's offense couldn't come back from.

Kiley Goff and Sydney Lewis led the way on offense, with both Terps finishing the day 2-3. Trinity Schlotterbeck also had a hit in the game, launching a double in the second inning.

Breaking Down The Action
  • Nebraska took one run off an RBI double in the top of the first, but a Wyche-led Maryland defense prevented any more Huskers from scoring.
  • The Huskers tacked on two more in the fourth with a two-run home run.
  • Jaeda McFarland came up big for the Terps in the seventh, making back-to-back grabs in center field to hold off Nebraska's offense.
  • A pair of walks by Campbell Kline and Megan Mikami gave Maryland a hopeful break in the bottom of the seventh, but the team couldn't convert for a walk-off.
Numbers To Know
  • 5: This was Wyche's fifth complete game of the season and 28th of her career.
