COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The top-seeded University of Maryland softball team is set face CSUN in the opening round of the National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC)on Thursday at the Triple Crown Sports Facility in Fort Collins, CO. here. This will be Maryland's first postseason since NCAA Regionals in 2012 and fifth National Postseason Tournament.
THIS WEEK'S STORYLINES
REgular season success
- The Terps enter postseason with a record of 36-17, the program's most wins since 2011.
- Maryland has 32 home runs on the season, surpassing its home run total from the 2022 season of 17. Amelia Lech has been powering the offense with 15 of those home runs.
- Freshman pitcher Keira Bucher currently leads the nation in saves with 11 on the season. She is one save away from breaking the Big Ten all-time record.

- The Terps closed out the regular season with a weekend sweep over Illinois. This is the first conference road sweep in program history since joining the Big Ten.
- Maryland outscored Illinois 20-4 over the course of three games. Trinity Schlotterbeck played a key role in the team's success batting .556 on the weekend, including a career-high four hits in Saturday's win. The senior also recorded two wins on the mound this weekend.
- Mackense Greico was named Big Ten Player of the Week this week for the first time this season. Greico finished the week hitting. 727 with a pair of homeruns.
- The Terps earned the 8-seed in the Big Ten Tournament and went on to face 9-seed Iowa. The Hawkeyes eliminated the Terps in the opening round of the tournament, 7-1.

- CSUN has completed the 2023 regular season with a 28-22 overall record and 19-8 in Big West play.
- The Matadors enter the tournament on a nine-game win streak after three consecutive series sweeps over CSU Bakersfield, UC San Diego, and UC Santa Barbara.
- This is the first ever meeting between Maryland and CSUN.
