COLLEGE PARK, MD – Three members of the Maryland women's lacrosse team,
Abby Bosco,
Shaylan Ahearn and
Eloise Clevenger, earned All-American honors, the IWLCA announced Thursday.
Bosco was selected to the Second Team while Ahearn and Clevenger were named to the Third Team. This is the 14th straight year that Maryland has had at least three All-Americans.
Bosco led the Maryland defense, which held 13 opponents to single digit goals this season. The graduate captain stood fifth in the nation and second in the Big Ten with 47 caused turnovers, ranked fourth in the Big Ten with 43 groundballs and 98 draw controls. She had nine games of three-plus groundballs, eight games of three-plus caused turnovers and had eight games of at least five draw controls. Bosco was a Tewaaraton Nominee, First Team All-Big Ten selection, was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week twice this season and the Inside Lacrosse, Unleashed and IWLCA National Player of the Week once. This is the second IWLCA All-America honor of Bosco's career as she was named a First Team selection last season.
Ahearn was one of the most dominant draw specialists in all of lacrosse this season, leading the Big Ten and standing eighth in the nation with 139 draw controls, tied for the third most in a single season in program history. The senior captain tallied at least eight draws in nine different games and helped Maryland win 61.6-percent of all draw controls, the fifth-best mark in the country and best in the Big Ten. Ahearn also had 22 goals, 16 assists, 17 groundballs and nine caused turnovers. She was named a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection and the Big Ten Midfielder of the Week five times, the most in the conference. This is Ahearn's first career IWLCA All-America honor.
Clevenger served as the leader on the Maryland attack, leading the team in both points (73) and assists (47), while standing 10th in the nation and first in the Big Ten in assists. The junior broke the Maryland single game assist record that has stood for 10 years with eight against Ohio State and had multiple assists in 12 of the 21 games she has played in. Clevenger led Maryland in points in nine different games highlighted by her nine against Ohio State, eight against Rutgers and seven against Princeton. Clevenger was named a First Team All-Big Ten selection and the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after her Ohio State performance. This is Clevenger's first IWLCA All-America honor.
The Terps have had 190 All-Americans in program history.
In total, the IWLCA honored 48 student-athletes from around the country with All-America honors. Their are 16 honorees in each of the first, second and third teams.
