Terps Sweep Illinois In Dominant 6-1 Win

Box Score URBANA-CHAMPAIGN, IL – Maryland (36-16, 11-11 B1G) pulled off a historic road sweep of Illinois (28-26, 6-16 B1G) on Sunday, defeating the Fighting Illini, 6-1. The Terps' 11 wins in conference play is the third-most since joining the Big Ten and the third-straight season of 10+ wins in Big Ten play. Maryland is now in a temporary tie for sixth place.

It's the first three-game road sweep for the Terps since joining the Big Ten and the first conference road sweep since sweeping Boston College in 2012 as a member of the ACC.

The Terps jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, beginning with a solo home run from Trinity Schlotterbeck, her sixth of the season. The blast to right-center field gave her 40 RBI on the year as well. 

Freshman Sammi Woods came through with an RBI double to double up the score at 2-0, her eighth double of the season, and Megan Mikami added an RBI single for good measure for a 3-0 lead, her 10th RBI of the season, It's the second-straight year that the outfielder has recorded double-digit RBI for Maryland.

The run-scoring continued in the fifth inning as Maryland put up another three-spot thanks to an RBI single from Mackense Greico and a two-run homer from Amelia Lech. Lech has a team-leading 15 home runs and 46 RBI this season, tying herself for the second-most single-season homers in Maryland history and putting her in fifth place for most single-season RBI. Greico recorded her first three-hit game of the season and 11th multi-hit game of the season. It was her 21st multi-hit game as a Terp.

Schlotterbeck and Courtney Wyche dominated on the mound for the Terps, allowing a combined five hits and one earned run while striking out eight and giving up one walk. Schlotterbeck pitched the majority of Sunday's game, throwing 4.1 scoreless innings, needing just 61 pitches to do so. It lowered her season ERA to 1.89.
