COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The eighth-seeded University of Maryland softball team is set face ninth-seeded Iowa in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament at Eichelberger Field in Champaign, Ill. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 ET on BTN.

THIS WEEK'S STORYLINES

REgular season success

The Terps completed the regular season with a record of 36-16, the program's most wins since 2011.
Maryland has 32 home runs on the season so far, already surpassing its home run total from the 2022 season of 17. Amelia Lech has been powering the offense with 15 of those home runs.
Freshman pitcher Keira Bucher currently leads the nation in saves with 11 on the season. She is one save away from breaking the Big Ten all-time record.

looking back to last weekend

The Terps are coming off of a weekend sweep over Illinois. This is the first conference road sweep in program history since joining the Big Ten.
Maryland outscored Illinois 20-4 over the course of three games. Trinity Schlotterbeck played a key role in the team's success batting .556 on the weekend, including a career-high four hits in Saturday's win. The senior also recorded two wins on the mound this weekened.
Mackense Greico was named Big Ten Player of the Week this week for the first time this season. Greico finished the week hitting. 727 with a pair of homeruns.

Iowa has completed the 2023 regular season with a 30-26 overall record and 10-13 in Big Ten play.
The Hawkeyes enter the tournament as the nine seed after dropping their final weekend series to Wisconsin, 0-3.
Maryland and Iowa met April 14-15 in Iowa City. The Terps took the series 2-1.

Maryland welcomes seven newcomers to the 2023 squad.
Sammi Woods and Madison Runyan look to make an immediate impact for the Terps in the middle infield positions. Gracelyn Solarz and Sydney Lewis will also look to contribute to the team's success in the infield.
Nicole Bodeux, Keria Bucher, Genevieve Ebaugh all come to Maryland after strong prep career's on the mound. The trio of new Terps will be mixed in with an experienced pitching rotation led by Courtney Wyche and Trinity Schlotterbeck.
