Women's Lacrosse Earns Berth in 33rd Straight NCAA Tournament

COLLEGE PARK, MD – For the 33rd straight season, the Maryland women's lacrosse team earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament, it was announced Sunday evening.

Maryland will travel to No. 7 James Madison for the first and second rounds and face Drexel in the first round on Friday, May 12 at 5:00 p.m. The other side of the region will see No. 7 James Madison and Army play. The winners of each of those games will play on Sunday, May 14 in the second round.

In the first ever meeting between the two teams, the Terps beat Drexel earlier this season, 15-9, behind six goals from Libby May and a career-high 14 draw controls from Shaylan Ahearn. A week later, Maryland narrowly fell to James Madison, 8-7. Maryland has never faced Army.

Maryland leads the nation with 38 NCAA appearances and are also tops in wins (78), final fours (28), championship game appearances (22) and NCAA titles (14). The Terps 33 consecutive appearances (1990-2023, minus 2020 due to COVID-19) is also the longest in the country. Maryland has made the final four 12 times under head coach Cathy Reese (2009-19) and has won four of the last eight national championships (2014, 15, 17, 19).

First and second round games begin on Friday and Sunday, May 12 and 14, respectively, on ESPN Plus. The quarterfinals follow on Thursday, May 18 at noon ET, 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU. Championship Weekend at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC includes the semifinals airing on ESPNU at 3 and 5:30 p.m., on Friday, May 26, and the title game on Sunday, May 29 at noon on ESPN.
