Pro Terps Baseball Report

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- As Major League Baseball heads into its trade deadline and the dog days of summer, we take a look at how our Pro Terps are handling things in the bigs. Multiple Terps have made their marks with their respective clubs this season and some will play key roles in divisional and wild card races as the season continues.
 
MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL (MLB)
LAMONTE WADE JR., SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
After facing injury issues throughout the 2022 season, Wade Jr. has had a clean bill of health all season long and has been a staple in the Giants line-up. Wade Jr. enters this portion of the season with a .269 batting average with nine home runs and 28 RBIs. Wade Jr. has been getting on base at a phenomenal clip, which is evident by his .399 on-base percentage which is the sixth-highest in the major leagues.
 

BRANDON LOWE, TAMPA BAY RAYS
Lowe began the season on a little bit of a slump, before a lower back injury in early June sidelined him for almost a month. Since his return from the IL, Lowe has picked it up with the bat, batting to a .250 average with two home runs and five RBI and a .350 on base percentage. For the season, Lowe is batting .215 with 11 home runs and 34 RBI.  
JOSE CUAS, KANSAS CITY ROYALS
Cuas has been on a tear for the Royals since being recalled on May 8th after a slow start to the season. Since being recalled, Cuas is 2-0 with a 3.46 ERA, 34 strikeouts. During the 2023 season, Cuas has a 3-0 record with a 4.24 ERA and 51 strikeouts over 40.1 innings

KEVIN SMITH, OAKLAND ATHLETICS
Smith started the 2023 season in Triple and bounced between there and the Majors during the year. The power stroke was on for the East Greenbush, N.Y. native, as he had a MLB career high four bombs on the year, before a strained back placed him on the IL. In addition to his four homers, Smith is hitting for a .191 average and has 8 RBI.
MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL (MILB)
ADAM KOLAREK, LOS ANGELES DODGERS
The Lefty has made one appearance for the big league club, as he pitched an inning and a third on June 11th against the Phillies. Kolarek struck out two batters in the outing and allowed a hit. The Baltimore, Maryland native has spent most of his season at Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he holds an 0-3 record with a 2.22 ERA  and 23 strikeouts.
 
NICK DUNN, ST. LOUIS CARDINALS
After crushing Double-A pitching to the tune of a .332 batting average, seven home runs, and 40 RBI for the Springfield Cardinals, Dunn got the call-up to Triple-A Memphis on July 18th. Dunn clubbed his first Triple-A home run against the Charlotte Knights on July 23rd. Through eight games in Triple-A, Dunn is batting .353 with a home run and three RBI
HUNTER PARSONS, NEW YORK METS
parsons has split time between both Triple-A and Double-A during the 2023 season. The Salisbury, Maryland native started his season with the Triple-A Syracuse Mets, where her carried a 2-1 record with a 4.85 ERA and 16 strikeouts. Parsons was assigned to Double-A Binghamton where he has a 3-2 record with a 3.97 ERA and 28 strikeouts through 22.2 innings.

SEAN BURKE, CHICAGO WHITE SOX
The righty from Worcester, Massachusetts finished the '22 season with two starts at Triple-A Charlotte, and has continued to compete at that level during the 2023 season before an injury sidelined him since June 22nd. The pitcher has a 1-4 record with 7.61 ERA and 34 strikeouts over 36.2 innings.

JOHN MURPHY, CINCINNATI REDS
After four years on the independent circuit, the righty from Camden, New Jersey has gotten his first chance in the minors. He has made the most of it, as he has moved through Single-A and High-A, while even making one appearance in Triple-A in the Reds system. Murphy is currently pitching for the High-A Dayton Dragons and for the season he has a 3-1 record with a 2.83 ERA and 24 strikeouts.

BEN COWLES, NEW YORK YANKEES
In his first full season with the High-A Hudson valley Renegades, Cowles has carved out a pretty good role with the squad. The shortstop is batting .251 on the season with nine home runs, 29 RBI, and 12 stolen bases through 74 games.
 
RYAN RAMSEY, KANSAS CITY ROYALS
Ramsey came into his first season of full season ball with the Single-A Columbia Fireflies, and has had an outstanding run with the team. The lefty was pitching to a 1.13 ERA before a stint on the Developmental and Injury Lists until June 24th. Since returning to Single-A, Ramsey has not allowed a single run, while only allowing three hits and striking out 19 batters through three starts. For the season he has a 1-1 record with a 1.35 ERA and 36 strikeouts.

MAX COSTES, BALTIMORE ORIOLES
In his first full season in the majors, Costes has had a strong performance throughout the year. Costes began the season at Single-A Delmarva, where he slashed .368/.435/.526 through six games before getting the call-up to High-A Aberdeen. In 39 games for the IronBirds, the first baseman is hitting to a .248 average with eight home runs and 27 RBI.
 
MARTY COSTES, HOUSTON ASTROS
Costes has had two stints on the IL this season while competing for the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys. In 26 games for the Space Cowboys, Costes has a .258 average with a home run and 10 RBI.
 
TROY SCHREFFLER JR., PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
Schreffler started the season at the High-A Jersey Shore BlueClaws. During 19 games, Schreffler hit to a .186 average with six RBI. He was assigned to Single-A Clearwater on June 13th, where he has picked it up with the bat and is hitting .288 with three home runs and nine RBI through 16 games.

CHRIS ALLEYNE, LOS ANGELES DODGERS
Alleyne was promoted to the High-A Great Lakes Loons ahead of the 2023 season and has had been productive in his second year in professional baseball. The Philadelphia native has three home runs, 25 RBI, and 17 stolen bags through 70 games while patrolling the outfield for the Loons. 

RANDY BEDNAR, SEATTLE MARINERS
Bednar got called up to the High-A Everett ahead of the 2023 season and brought some power with him. The outfielder for the AquaSox has hit nine home runs and has 23 RBI.
