Brandon Lowe helps lead Rays to first spot in Wild Card Standings

Pro Terps Baseball Report (Post-Trade Deadline)

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- As we push past the MLB Trade Deadline, several former Terrapins are helping to lead the charge as their team looks to secure a spot in the postseason. One Terrapin baseball alum got a change of scenery at the deadline, while many of the newly drafted Terps begin their professional careers.
 
MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL (MLB)
LAMONTE WADE JR., SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
Wade Jr. continues to help lead the Giants, who sit in second place in the NL West and in the second spot in the NL Wild Card. Wade Jr. still sits in the top-10 in the Majors in On-base Percentage, with mark of .396 as the seventh-best in all of baseball. The first baseman from Owings Mill, Maryland, is hitting .269 with 11 home runs and 32 RBI
BRANDON LOWE, TAMPA BAY RAYS
Lowe has been swinging a ot bat as of late, as the second baseman is hitting .291 with five home runs and 13 RBI in his last 15 games. This has seen him pick his batting average up from .205 to .223 during this streak. Lowe has been a staple in the Rays order as they sit in second place in the AL East, but hold the first spot in the AL Wild Card. In addition to his .226 batting average, Lowe has 15 home runs and 45 RBI on the season.
JOSE CUAS, CHICAGO CUBS

Cuas was moved to the Chicago Cubs during the MLB Trade Deadline, who hold the third and final spot in the NL Wild Card and are within 1.5 games of first-place in the NL Central. Cuas has had four appearances for the Cubs since being traded and hasn't allowed a run while striking out five. For the season, Cuas is 3-0 with a 4.08 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 46.1 innings.

KEVIN SMITH, OAKLAND ATHLETICS
Smith started the 2023 season in Triple and bounced between there and the Majors during the year. Smith still sits on the Injury List as he did during ur previous update. Smith is batting .191 with four home runs and eight RBI for the season.
MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL (MILB)
ADAM KOLAREK, NEW YORK METS
Kolarek was involved in a trade at the deadline that saw the lefty return to the team that drafted him back in the 2010 MLB Draft. Since making his way back to the Mets, Kolarek has made three appearances with Triple-A Syracuse and struck out six batters. For the season, Kolarek has an 0-3 record with a 2.18 ERA with 32 strikeouts.
 
NICK DUNN, ST. LOUIS CARDINALS
Dunn continues to swing a hot bat since his call up to Triple-A, with the Sunbury, Pennsylvania native hitting for a .422 average with a home run and eight RBI in 17 games for the Memphis Redbirds. For the season, Dunn is batting .350 with eight home runs and 48 RBI.
HUNTER PARSONS, NEW YORK METS
Parsons was called up to Triple-A Syracuse on August 1st and had made three appearances and struck out five hitters. This is Parsons' second stint in Triple-A, with the righty having a 2-1 record with a 4.85 ERA and 16 strikeouts in hist first stint. Parsons made 16 appearances for Double-A Binghamton where he had a 3-2 record with a 3.80 ERA and 28 strikeouts. Across both Double-A and Triple-A, Parsons has a 5-3 record with a 3.83 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 40.0 innings.

SEAN BURKE, CHICAGO WHITE SOX
Burke was moved from the 7-day IL to the 60-day-IL as he continues to deal with a injury that has sidelined him since the middle of June. For the season, Burke has a record of 1-4 with a 7.61 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 36.2 innings pitched. 

JOHN MURPHY, CINCINNATI REDS
Murphy's first season in the minors continues to be a success for the righty. After four years on the independent circuit, the Merchantville, New Jersey native has been effective out of the bullpen for High-A Dayton. Murphy has made 18 appearances with the Dragons and has a 3-1 record with a 3.71 ERA and 29 strikeouts over 34 innings. Murphy began the season in Single-A and has even made one appearance for the Triple-A Louisville Bats. For the season, Murphy is 4-1 with a 3.35 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 48.1 innings during the season. 

BEN COWLES, NEW YORK YANKEES
Cowles' continues to carve out an role in his first full season at High-A Hudson Valley. Cowles has been a prominent contributor for the Renegades and the shortstop has done great work for the team throughout the season. Cowles' average sits at .261 on the season with nine home runs and 34 RBI.
 
RYAN RAMSEY, KANSAS CITY ROYALS
After being named the Columbia Fireflies Co-Pitcher of the Month in July, Ramsey has earned his promotion to the High-A Quad City River Bandits. Ramsey finished July with a 1-0 record, while not allowing any runs and striking out 25 in 30.2 innings. Ramsey only allowed six total hits in July, while holding opposing hitters to a .092 batting average. Ramsey made his High-A debut on August 10th and went two innings and struck out four. For the season, Ramsey has a 2-1 record with an ERA of 2.06 and 51 strikeouts.
MAX COSTES, BALTIMORE ORIOLES
Costes continues his quick rise through the Orioles farm system, as he has now earned a call-up to the Double-A Bowie Baysox. This promotion comes after a streak where Costes batted .286 with six homers and 14 runs driven in. Costes made his Double-A debut on August 8th and went 3-4 with a double and an RBI. Across three levels this season, Costes is hitting .263 with 10 home runs and 32 RBI.
 
MARTY COSTES, HOUSTON ASTROS
Costes continues to distance himself from two IL stint that have taken up most of his 2023 season. Costes has gotten consistent play in the left field for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys and continues to produce results. For the season, Costes is batting .239 with a home run and 13 RBI.
 
TROY SCHREFFLER JR., PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
Since being assigned to the Single-A Clearwater Threshers, Schreffler Jr. has picked it up with the bat. Since his assignment, Schreffler Jr. is hitting .264 with four home runs and 12 RBI. Including his his time in High-A ball to begin the season, Schreffler Jr. has a .235 batting average with four home runs and 18 RBI.

CHRIS ALLEYNE, LOS ANGELES DODGERS
In his second season of professional ball, Alleyne has had a very productive season as an every day player for the High-A Great Lakes Loons. Alleyne has four home runs and has driven in 32 runs, do go along with 22 stolen bases in 81 games for the Loons.

MATT SHAW, CHICAGO CUBS
After becoming the highest drafted Maryland player in program history, Shaw has made his mark in the Cubs system. Shaw made his debut on July 27th with the Arizona Complex League (ACL) Cubs, and hit his first double in his professional career. In his second career game, Shaw slugged his first professional home run. After three games int he ACL, Shaw was promoted to the High-A South Bend Cubs and in his first at bat in High-A hit his first triple of his professional career. On August 10th, Shaw hit his first High-A home run for South Bend. He has slotted well into the line-up in South Bend, and has a .345 batting average with a home run and seven RBI through seven games. Through ten games in his career, Shaw is hitting .378 with a two home runs and eight RBI.
NICK LORUSSO, NEW YORK METS
After leading the all of Division I in RBI during his senior season, Lorusso has turned his sights on professional baseball. Lorusso made his debut with the Single-A St. Lucie Mets on August 1st and has played in seven games so far in his short professional career. Lorusso picked up his first hit as a professional recently, and looks to add many first in his career

JASON SAVACOOL, ST. LOUIS CARDINALS
Like the other two aforementioned 2023 draft picks, Savacool has also made his debut in professional baseball. Savacool made his debut with the Single-A Palm beach Cardinals on August 2nd and picked up the first strikeout of his career. In his second and most recent appearance for the Cardinals, Savacool through 1.2 innings and struck out three without allowing a hit.

LUKE SHLIGER, SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
The sixth round pick for the Giants has seen his career get off to a quick start. Shliger's debut with the Single-A San Jose Ginats came on July 29th, where the catcher picked up the first hit of his professional career. In his second game with the Giants on August 2nd, Shliger hit the first double of his career and got his first RBI. So far through six games, Shliger is batting .273 with an RBI.

TOMMY KANE, SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
Kane joined his teammate Shliger, as he was also drafted in this year's draft by the San Francisco Giants. The pitcher from Broomall, Pennslyvania made his debut with the ACL Giants Black on July 25th, and worked an inning and struck out a pair of batters. In five appearances for the Giants, Kane has a 1-0 record with a 1.17 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 7.2 innings.
