Maryland Ranked No.3 in Preseason Poll

College Park, MD -- Maryland field hockey has been ranked No. 3 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Preseason Poll, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.

The Terps received 871 votes including six first place selections. The team sits one ranking higher than last years preseason poll, with three more first place votes. This ranking comes following a 2022 season which saw Maryland win 19 games and advance to the NCAA Final Four.

The Maryland lineup is packed with depth at all positions. The Terps return a veteran defense in Rayne Wright and Maura Verleg. The pair will serve as captains for the 2023 season. The team's leading scorer, Hope Rose, is back for her junior season. Rose finished the year with 36 points from 14 goals and eight assists.

The Terps open their 2023 campaign with a trip to the west coast as they face Stanford, Cal and UC Davis. The first matchup of the season will take place at Stanford on Friday, August 25 at 3:00 p.m. EST.
