Six Terps Selected As Preseason All-Americans

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Meghan Ball, Shaylan Ahearn, Eloise Clevenger, Libby May, Brianna Lamoureux, and Emily Sterling have been named Preseason All-Americans by USA Lacrosse Magazine, as announced on Wednesday.

Ball, the reigning Big Ten Defender of the Year, was named to the first team while Ahearn, the reigning Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, was named to the second team. Clevenger was named to the third team, and the trio of May, Lamoureux, and Sterling were named Honorable Mentions.

A graduate transfer from Rutgers, Ball arrives in College Park with a stellar resume that includes two USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American selections the past two seasons, including being named to the first team last season, three All-Big Ten selections, and is the Scarlet Knight's all-time leader in caused turnovers (154) and draw controls (308).

Back at Maryland for her fifth season, Ahearn returns after leading the Big Ten in draw controls with 139, which was also tied for the third-most in program history. She was named the Big Ten Midfielder of the Week five times en route to being named the Midfielder of the Year, as well as a USA Lacrosse Second Team All-American. She, also, tacked on 22 goals, 16 assists, and 17 ground balls.

A senior attacker, Clevenger led the Terps in points (73) as well as assists (47). Eight of her 47 assists came against Ohio State in April, which broke the Maryland single-game assist record. She was named to the All-Big Ten First Team and an Honorable Mention All-American by USA Lacrosse after her breakout junior campaign.

May comes back to Maryland as the team's leading goal scorer from last season with 62. She tallied at least a hattrick in 11 of 22 games for the Terps, including three six-goal games, and a perfect five goals on five shots against No. 15 Michigan. Additionally, she was named the IWLCA National Player of the Week for the week, and the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, twice.

A graduate student from Bel Air, Sterling is back in the cage for the Terps after winning her second-straight Big Ten Goaltender of the Year Award. She was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week twice and was sixth in the nation with 186 saves.

Lamoureux, a Rocky Point, New York native, was second on the team with 34 ground balls last season and cemented herself as a key fixture in the Maryland defense. She also garnered USA Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention and Second Team All-Big Ten honors.

The Terps, who are ranked No. 6 in USA Lacrosse preseason poll, will open up the season on the road against Saint Joseph's on February 9th. Maryland's first home game at the newly renovated Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex will be on February 21st against Drexel.
