COLLEGE PARK, MD -- No. 5 Maryland returns to action on Friday with a match against Indiana, followed by a Sunday game against No. 10 Iowa in Iowa City.

Maryland will head to Indiana and Iowa after starting 5-3 this season. The Terps's offense has been led by senior captain Kylee Niswonger, who has scored four goals in eight games, including her first career hat trick against Lock Haven.
Preseason Big Ten Player to Watch, Josie Hollamon, has been a crucial part of Maryland's defense while also contributing on the offensive side scoring two goals this season.
Indiana will host the Terrapins in Bloomington after starting the season with a 3-5 record. The Hoosiers are coming off a 1-1 weekend, losing 3-2 to No. 19 Penn State on Friday but bouncing back with a 3-0 win over Lock Haven
The 2024 Hoosiers return 20 players from last season, while adding seven freshmen and two transfers. Offensively, they bring back their top three scorers from 2023: Ines Garcia Prado, Yip Van Wonderent, and Meghan Dilion.The transfers include sophomore defender Elen Nicholls from Delaware and graduate goalkeeper Brook Ross from Holy Cross. Nicholls appeared in 17 games in 2023, while Ross was named the 2023 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and earned All-Patriot League First Team honors.
This season, Indiana ranks fourth in the Big Ten in saves per game and fifth in penalty corners per game. Goalie Sadie Canelli ranks third in the conference in save percentage, and fourth in both goals-against average and saves per game.
Maryland is 12-0 all-time against Indiana. Last season, the Terps defeated Indiana 2-1 in College Park.
No. 10 Iowa will host the Terrapins on Sunday after starting the season 5-3. Offensively, Iowa is led by Dionne Van Aalsum and Annika Herbine who both have six points respectively. Defensively, Iowa returns their defensive anchors from 2023 in Milly Short and goalkeeper Mia Magnotta. This season, Magnotta is fourth in the conference in save percentage and fifth in goals-against average.
Iowa finished the 2023 season with a 13-6 overall record and an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. Over the last 120 games, Iowa has allowed just 122 goals, including 81 games where opponents scored one goal or less.
Maryland is 20-6-1 all-time against Iowa. The Terps defeated Iowa 2-0 last season in the Big Ten tournament in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Maryland has faced six ranked opponents through eight games this season.

Transfers Alina Gerke and Fleur Knopert have made an immediate impact to the team. Knopert is second on the team in points with five on two goals and an assist. Gerke earned her first assist this past weekend against No. 13 Rutgers and scored her first goal as a Terp against Lock Haven.
Freshman Ellie Goldstein and Ella Gaitan have also added youthful energy to an already potent attack. Both freshmen have recorded one goal each.

Hope Rose earned NFHCA All Mid-Atlantic Region First Team honors last season.

Klebasko's cage

Sophomore Alyssa Klebasko is continuing her dominance in the cage coming off of a stellar freshman year.
The 2023 Big Ten All-Second Team goalie is currently third in the conference and fifth nationally with a 0.90 goals-against average.
Through eight games, Klebasko has 18 saves and her two shutouts ranks third in the conference.

Head coach Missy Meharg is 153-38-1 (.797) vs. Big Ten opponents in her 37 years at the helm of the Maryland field hockey program.
