COLLEGE PARK, MD – No. 8 Maryland took down No. 7 Michigan, 2-0, on Sunday at the Maryland Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. The Wolverines entered the contest on an 11-game win streak. The Terps (10-4, 5-2 Big Ten) earned their fifth ranked win and third over a top-10 team this season.
Hope Rose scored the game's first goal in the second quarter on a penalty corner. It was the team-leading seventh of the year and assisted by Emma DeBerdine and Kylee Niswonger. Michigan had given up just two goals on penalty corners entering the matchup. It was also the Wolverines' first goal given up in conference play this season.
Josie Hollamon tacked on a dagger with under three minutes to play, scoring her fifth goal of the season.
Maryland's back line of Ericka Morris-Adams, Rayne Wright and Hollamon limited Michigan's Abby Tamer to a blank stat sheet on only four shots. Tamer played alongside DeBerdine on the United States women's national field hockey team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Goalkeeper Alyssa Klebasko made three saves and was credited with her fifth shutout of the season, matching her total from a year ago. It marked the first time Michigan was shut out in a game this season.
Michigan (11-2, 4-1 Big Ten) entered the contest undefeated in conference play. Its lone loss occurred in their season opener to No. 2 North Carolina. The Terps are now 23-5 in head-to-head matchups with the Wolverines.
