COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland women's lacrosse head coach Cathy Reese announces that the program will welcome home two-time national champion Caroline Steele, to serve as the Terps' director of player development.
"We are thrilled to welcome Caroline back to College Park as part of our staff," said Reese. "As an exceptional former student-athlete in our program, Caroline exemplifies success and has always embraced every opportunity. Her passion for the game and for Maryland lacrosse makes her a fantastic addition to our team."
Steele served as an assistant coach for Saint Joseph's for five seasons (2020-2024) under former Maryland legend Alex Kahoe. Steele helped lead the Hawks to new heights, including a program-best 14 wins, first Atlantic 10 title and NCAA tournament appearance during the 2022 campaign.
Steele earned All-NCAA Tournament Team honors in 2017 as she helped lead Maryland to the national championship. She went on to become an IWLCA All-America selection in her final two seasons with the Terrapins, each time garnering a nomination for the Tewaaraton Award, given to the nation's top player. She finalized her collegiate career with a second NCAA title in 2019.
"Maryland Lacrosse is such a special program," said Steele. "I am incredibly grateful to be back in College Park, a place where I spent the best four years of my life. I am eager to give back to the program that has given me so much. Working alongside this staff is a dream and I look forward to a great season ahead."
A native of Severna Park, Maryland, Steele was twice named to the All-Big Ten Team and earned All-Region First Team honors as a junior. A two-time All-Big Ten Tournament selection, she was the tournament's Most Valuable Player as a sophomore in 2017. Steele finished her career with 205 goals, ranking seventh on Maryland's all-time list, as well as 59 assists and 264 career points. She then went on to play for the Pride in the Women's Professional Lacrosse League.
