
Pillard Leads Maryland at Illini Invitational at Medinah

MEDINAH, IL -- Freshman Anna Pillard finished in the top three individually to lead Maryland at the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah Tuesday at the Medinah Country Club.
In just her second collegiate event, Pillard went nine strokes under par and tied for third individually. She earned a 54-hole score of 207 (70-67-70), which set a new career low. She racked up 13 birdies in the event, including seven in Monday's second round. She birdied or parred 50 of 54 holes in the event.
Senior Panassaya Somchit tied for 52nd with a score of 220 (74-75-71), which was +4 and a season-low. Freshman Chananyu Chowiwattana earned a score of 224 (76-74-74), which was +8. Sophomore Julia Garcia competed as an individual and earned a score of 231 (77-79-75).
As a team, the Terrapins finished with a score of 861 (287-287-287), which was -3 overall and their lowest score of the season so far.
Next, Maryland will close the fall season at the Landfall Tradition event Oct. 25-27 in Wilmington, N.C.

Junior Nicha Kanpai tied for 42nd with a score of 217 (72-73-72), which was +1. Junior Daniela Burgos Ortega tied for 49th with her score of 219 (71-73-75), which was +3. She made 14 birdies, including seven in the second round, and one eagle in the event. Her combined score of 219 also set a new career low.
