Terps Fall To Blue Devils In NCAA Tournament First Round, 1-0

CHAPEL HILL, NC – In a rivalry between former ACC foes No. 5 seed Maryland field hockey and No. 6 seed Duke, the Terps fell to the Blue Devils, 1-0, in the first round of the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament on Friday at Karen Shelton Stadium.

This was No. 5-ranked Maryland 36th NCAA tournament appearance in program history. The Terps finished the season with a 13-7 record.

Maryland's back line of Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Josie Hollamon, Rayne Wright and Josie Hollamon did their part to cut off Duke's offense for most of the game, holding the Blue Devils to only three shots on goal. However, a shot off a deflected penalty corner in the third quarter broke the 0-0 stalemate and gave Duke the game's lone score.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Klebasko made two saves and finished the season with 52.

No. 9-ranked Duke advanced to the second round and will play its ACC rival, No. 1 seed North Carolina. This was the sixth matchup between the Terps and Blue Devils in the postseason, their most recent being in the 2017 quarterfinals.
