Kulvik Named Defensive Player of the Year, Six Terps Earn All-Big Ten Honors

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland men's soccer's William Kulvik was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, leading a list of six Terrapins' to garner All-Big Ten honors. Kulvik was also named to the All-Big Ten First Team, and was joined by midfielder Leon Koehl. Colin Griffith and Max Rogers were named to the All-Big Ten Second Team, while Laurin Mack was named to the conference's All-Freshman Team. Alex Nitzl earned Maryland's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

Kulvik finished the regular season playing and starting in 16 matches. Kulvik was second on the team with minutes played with 1,524 and went the full 90 minutes in all but one match. Kulvik finished the season with two goals and two assists. Kulvik helped lead a back line that kept opposing offenses in check all regular season.

Koehl earned first-team All-Big Ten honors after playing and starting in 13 matches in the regular season. Koehl finished the regular season tied for the team lead with six goals with two assists. Koehl finished the season a perfect 6-6 from the penalty spot, improving Maryland's total from a season ago where it missed all four of its chances from the spot. Koehl's six successful penalty kicks not only led the Big Ten, but were also the most in all of Division I.

Griffith was one of the Terps' top attacking threats all season long. Griffith was tied for the team lead with six goals during the regular season. Griffith's six goals during the season were a career-high for the junior, doubling his previous career-high for a season. Griffith had a stretch during the season scoring in four consecutive matches. During the streak, Griffith scored goals against Northwestern (Sept. 27), Penn State (Oct. 1), Michigan State (Oct. 5), and Washington (Oct. 11). The last Terp with a scoring streak as long as Griffith was Ben Bender, who scored in five-straight games in 2021.

Rogers transferred to the Terps ahead of the season and was hugely impactful within the side. Rogers started in every game for the Terps during the season, finishing with two goals and a team-leading seven assists. In Maryland's 3-0 win against then No. 8 Wisconsin, Rogers assisted all three goals for the Terps. It marked the second consecutive season a Terps player had three assists in a game, with Luke van Heukelum picking up three assists in Maryland's win over Villanova on Oct. 10, 2023.

Mack started in goal for 16 matches, tied for the second-most for all goalkeepers in the conference, and led all freshmen goalkeepers. Mack made 45 saves for the Terps, the sixth-most for a goalkeeper in the conference during the season. Mack made a career-high five saves in three separate games while being in goal for three shutouts on the year.
