COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland men's soccer's Leon Koehl and William Kulvik both heard their names called as part of the MLS SuperDraft 2025. Both players were drafted in the third round of the draft, with Koehl going to Sporting Kansas City with the 64th pick and Kulvik was taken with the 83rd by Atlanta United.
Koehl and Kulvik are the 57th and 58th Terps taken in the history of the SuperDraft. Maryland has had 21 selections in the last 21 SuperDrafts. This also marks the fifth consecutive year that Maryland has had a selection in the MLS SuperDraft.
"It's always exciting to have our players selected in the MLS SuperDraft", said head coach Sasho Cirovski. "Leon and William both had outstanding seasons and it's gratifying that SKC and Atlanta recognized their talent."
Koehl earned first-team All-Big Ten honors after playing in 16 matches and making 15 starts. Koehl finished the season tied with a team-leading seven goals with two assists. Koehl finished the season a perfect 7-for-7 from the penalty spot, improving Maryland's total from a season ago where it missed all four of its chances from the spot. Koehl's seven successful penalty kicks not only led the Big Ten, but were also the most in all of Division I. Koehl's 7-7 from the spot are the most for a Terps since Patrick Mullins, who went a perfect 9-9 in 2013.
Kulvik earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors this past season, following a campaign where he played and started in 19 matches. Kulvik was second on the team with minutes played with 1,691 and went the full 90 minutes in all but two matches. Kulvik finished the season with two goals and two assists. Kulvik helped lead a back line that kept opposing offenses in check all regular season. In addition to being named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, Kulvik also earned first team All-Big Ten honors.
