No. 7 Terps Improve To 9-0 With Win Over Mount St. Mary’s, 87-52

COLLEGE PARK, MD – No. 7 Maryland women's basketball defeated Mount St. Mary's, 87-52, in a wire-to-wire victory at XFINITY Center on Tuesday. The Terps advanced to 9-0, their best unbeaten streak to begin a season since starting 12-0 during the 2018-19 season.  
 
Maryland led 40-19 at halftime after scoring the first 10 points of the second frame. It remained in control for the entirety of the game, and every Terp to log minutes entered the scoring column, while five scored in double figures. This was the fourth time this season five or more players have scored double-digit points. 

Christina Dalce led all scorers with 13 points. She also collected three rebounds and dished out two assists. Shyanne Sellers added 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists. 
  Allie Kubek (12 points and five rebounds), Saylor Poffenbarger (10 points, seven rebounds and three steals) and Kaylene Smikle (10 points) were other standouts. 
  Maryland won the rebounding battle 45-24, while its defense forced 19 turnovers. It has boasted an advantage on the glass and forced double-digit turnovers in every game this season.  

Mount St. Mary's is now 0-6 on the season. Jo Raflo led the Mountaineers with 10 points. 

Fans were encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to toss onto the court during halftime for the annual Teddy Bear Toss. All stuffed animals collected were collected and will be donated to Toys for Tots.

Frese's Take 
"We did some good things on the glass, as well as the bench play I thought was really good in the fourth quarter, where they were challenged and did a lot of great things," head coach Brenda Frese said. "It's great to be able to see, as we're continuing to build momentum, where 9-0 and three wins this week as we head into conference play."

  • Maryland led 15-8 at the end of the first. Christina Dalce and Te-Biasu led the Terps with five points apiece.

  • Shyanne Sellers scored 12 points, recording her 74th career game in double figures. She has scored in double-figures in seven games this season. 
  • Saylor Poffenbarger tallied 10 points for her 31st career game in double figures. It was her fourth game scoring double-figures as a Terp and third game in a row. 
  • Kaylene Smikle netted 10 points for her 46th career game in double figures. It was her eighth game netting double-digit points as a Terp, doing so consecutively.
Unstoppable Start 
  • Maryland advanced to 9-0 this season. This is Maryland's best unbeaten streak to begin a season since starting 12-0 during the 2018-19 season. 
  • In 2018-19, the Terps finished 29-5 with a trip to the Big Ten Tournament Championship game and NCAA Tournament Second Round. 
  • The Terrapins' best unbeaten streak to begin a season is 18-0 during the 2006-07 season.                         
Sellers On The Charts 
  • Shyanne Sellers is 27th on the program's all-time scoring list with 1336. Next on the list is Stephanie Cross (1,349 from 1995-98). 
  • The point guard is also eighth on the all-time assists list with 449 in her career. Sellers is closing in on seventh place Marissa Coleman (453 2006-09). 
Home Sweet Home 
  • Maryland has been a dominant home team, especially over the last decade. The Terps are 612-142 all-time in College Park, dating back to the inaugural 1971-72 season.
  • Maryland is 318-47 at home under Brenda Frese, whose first season in College Park was the inaugural season of XFINITY Center. 
  • The Terrapins are 177-12 all-time in non-conference games in XFINITY Center.
