Box Score PHILADELPHIA -- No. 9 Maryland women's lacrosse scored the first 10 goals of the game in a 16-3 win over
Saint Joseph's on Friday at Sean Sweeney Field. It was the third straight season Maryland beat Saint Joseph's in a season opener. The Terps have also won 17 of their last 18 season openers.
Eloise Clevenger facilitated for her teammates with seven assists, second only to her school record of eight, which she set last season vs. Ohio State.
Six Terps: Hannah Leubecker, Libby May, Jaylen Rosga, Hailey Russo, Shannon Smith and Kori Edmondson each scored twice for Maryland in the win. May recorded her 200th point of her career with a goal at the 1:26 mark of the opening quarter, becoming just the 25th Terp to reach that mark.
Overall, Ten different Terps scored goals. They outshot Saint Joseph's 42-17. Maryland had more goals (16) than Saint Joseph's had shots on goal (12).
Maryland's defense didn't allow a goal for the first 31:09 of the game. Goalie Emily Sterling saved nine shots and eclipsed the 500-career saves.
Shaylan Ahearn moved to second all-time in career draw controls. She had four on Friday and now has 325 to pass Lizzie Colson (2017-21), who had 324.
Breaking Down The Action
- The first half was all Maryland as they outscored Saint Joseph's 6-0. Hannah Leubecker and Shaylan Ahearn scored goals to begin the game 30 seconds apart. Shannon Smith, Jordyn Lipkin, Libby May and Kori Edmondson added goals as six different Terps scored in the opening quarter.
- Maryland continued its scoring barrage with four goals in the second quarter to lead 10-0 at halftime. Eight different Terps had in the first half with Smith and Leubecker each recording a pair.
- At the end of the third, the Terps dominated the Hawks 14-2. Hailey Russo scored twice during the period with Jaylen Rosga and May each adding their second of the game.
- Maryland cruised to its season opener win by winning comfortably 16-3.

- Libby May (two goals) recorded her 52nd multi-point game of her career and 48th multi-goal game in 67 career games played.
- Jaylen Rosga (two goals) pitched in with her second multi-point game of her career.
- Hailey Russo (two goals) recorded the first multi-point and multi-goal game of her career.
- Kori Edmondson (two goals) has recorded multiple points in 12 games of her career and scored multiple goals in all of them.
- Maisy Clevenger (one goal, two assists) had the first multi-point and multi-assist game of her career.

- Shaylan Ahearn moved to second all-time in program history with 325 career draw controls by recording four in Friday's game. She passed Lizzie Colson, who had 324 from 2017-21.
- Emily Sterling stands at sixth in career saves with 506 after her nine in the game. Sterling is now 13 saves away from moving into the top five where Denise Wescott stands (1978-80) with 519.
- Eloise Clevenger's seven assists gives her 88, vaulting her into 12th on the career assists list. She moves past Anysia Fedec (83, 1984-87), Kelly Coppedge (81, 2001-04), and Brooke Griffin (81, 2011-15).
- Clevenger's seven assists is just the third time in program history a Terp has seven or more assists in a game. Clevenger set the record with eight vs. Ohio State in 2023. Alex Aust also had seven assists vs. UMBC in 2013.
- Libby May is now tied for 24th on the all-time points list (201) with Kali Hartshorn (2017-20).
- Hannah Leubecker moved into 14th on the all-time goals list with 164. She passed Quinn Carney, who tallied 162 goals from 1998-2001.
Season Opener History
- Maryland has won 17 of its last 18 season openers and is 41-10 in season openers in its program's history.
- This was also the third straight season Maryland opened its season against Saint Joseph's. The Terps came away with a win in all three matchups while outscoring the Hawks 51-14.
