Box Score SYRACUSE, NY – Hannah Leubecker scored the game-winning goal 3:47 into overtime to lift No. 9 Maryland to a 9-8 win over No. 5 Syracuse on Saturday at JMA Wireless Dome. Maryland (2-0) used its suffocating defense to shut down the Orange in the thriller. The game was tied six times – four times in the second half.
Maryland's (2-0) defense was clutch down the stretch in the first overtime.
Emily Sterling made a game-changing save and the defense forced a turnover on the final possession. Leubecker later ended the game with her third goal on a shot from the top of the circle off a feed from
Eloise Clevenger.
Kori Edmondson also recorded a hat trick, scoring all three of her goals in the first three quarters.

Eloise Clevenger had four assists and her sister Maisy had the Terps' other goal.
The Orange entered the game averaging 16.5 points goals per game and the Terps held them to eight goals. Sterling was sensational in goal, making nine saves.
Shaylan Ahearn won four draws in the game.
For Syracuse (1-2), Olivia Adamson and Natalie Smith each scored two goals.
Maryland gained a measure of revenge after suffering a 20-11 loss at Syracuse last season. This was Maryland's and Syracuse's 27th meeting all-time, with the Terps holding a 24-3 advantage. That includes a 7-1 record on the road.
Breaking Down The Action
- Libby May got Maryland on the board first by ripping a shot past the Syracuse goalie on an inside feed by Hailey Russo. The Terps added two other goals from Maisy Clevenger and Hannah Leubecker 40 seconds apart to claim a 3-1 lead heading into the second quarter.
- Syracuse scored three goals in the second quarter – including two in the final 47 seconds – to enter halftime with a 4-3 lead. The Terps held the Orange scoreless for over 13 minutes, but couldn't get any of their five shot to fall.
- Kori Edmondson scored three goals in the third quarter. She broke a scoring drought of 22:51 for the Terps to draw them within one at 5-4 with 11:18 left in the third quarter. She added an unassisted goal a few minutes later to tie the game. Maryland and Syracuse each scored two goals over the final 7:36 to enter the final quarter tied at 7-7.
- Syracuse broke the tie with a goal at 9:30 and Maryland responded with a goal by Leubcker to tie the game for the sixth time. Neither team scored in the final eight minutes to go to overtime.
- Emily Sterling made a crucial save at the 4:58 mark to keep Maryland alive.

- Libby May (two goals) recorded the 53rd multi-point game of her career and 49th multi-goal game.
- Eloise Clevenger (four assists) had the 35th multi-point game of her career. It was her 22nd career game with multiple assists. It was her 14th career game with three assists.

- Shaylan Ahearn is third in program history with 329 draw controls. She added to her total by adding four on Saturday. Next on the list is Kali Hartshorn (2017-20), who had 421 in her career.
- Emily Sterling is sixth in career saves after her nine in the game. She now has 515 and is only five away from passing Denise Wescott (1978-80) to claim the fifth spot.
- Eloise Clevenger moved up on the all-time assists list. She had four in the game and has 90 in her career, which is No. 10 in program history. She's only four away from passing Taylor Cummings (2013-16) to claim the ninth spot.
- Libby May and Hannah Leubecker are No. 13 and 14 respectively on the career goals list. May has 171 and Leubecker has 167. Both are nearing Zoe Stukenberg's (2014-17) position at 12th on the list.
