
Lewis Delivers Home Run, Terps Win 2-1 Over Virginia

Maryland (9-13) received solid outings in the circle from Bri Godfrey and Courtney Wyche, but couldn't match Virginia's (15-8) early run. With one swing of the bat, Lewis hit the fourth home run of her career and second of the season to bring home the go-ahead run in Diamond Williams. Megan Mikami stole the 67th base of her four-year career and broke Maryland's program record for career stolen bases with her swipe of second base in the first inning. She passed Vangie Galindo (2009-2012) who previously held the record with 66 bases swiped in her career. Godfrey received the start and pitched four innings. She struck out two batters and allowed just one run on four hits. Wyche finished the game and struck out four batters. She allowed just one hit in the final three innings.
Breaking Down The Action
- Megan Mikami stole second base in the bottom of the first inning and became Maryland's all-time career leader in bag swipes.
- Virginia got on board with an RBI single up the middle by Bella Cabral to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
- Mikami came close to earning a run for the Terps in the bottom of the third, where she picked up her first triple of the season to left field, but ultimately was not brought home.
- Sydney Lewis came up huge with a no-doubter, two-run shot to center field, giving the Terps a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. She drove home Diamond Williams who singled to left field.
