Maryland Defeats Delaware, 11-10, Behind Clutch Pitching

NEWARK, DE – Maryland baseball came away with an 11-10 win against Delaware at Bob Hannah Stadium on Tuesday. The Terps (24-14) improved to 11-3 in one-run games and have won back-to-back one-run contests. They also swept Delaware (18-17) in the season series.
Delaware consistently fought back, bringing the game within one run after losing by as many as seven runs at two different points. However, Logan Berrier took the mound in the bottom of the ninth of a one-run game with a runner in scoring position. He retired the final two batters and earned his second save of the season.
Ryan Van Buren supplied a strong outing from the bullpen. He pitched 2.1 scoreless innings before handing the ball to Berrier. Van Buren and Berrier combined to hold the Blue Hens scoreless and hitless for the final three innings.
The Terps generated six runs on six hits to mount an early third-inning lead. The big inning was headlined by Jordan Crosland launching his third home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.
Swope's On Eddie's Hot Streak
"He's coming into his own from a confidence standpoint," head coach Matt Swope said. "He knows exactly who he is. He's one of the best hitters in the league. I don't think he's really out trying to prove something. ...He's more comfortable, he's confident and you can see he's come into his own."
Van Buren On Coming Out Of The Bullpen
"It was really exciting. It wasn't any negative connotation to come out of the bullpen. I took it as a challenge. But it was really fun to go back to my roots a little bit. I was doing that the first two years so I had some practice doing that already."
Breaking Down The Action

Eddie got the Terps on the board with another first-inning home run, doing so in back-to-back games. His solo home run was his sixth of the season and the junior extended his hitting streak to 11 games. He also has hits in 19 of his last 20 games. Breaking Down The Action
- Eddie Hacopian continued his hot stretch at the plate, launching an opening-inning home run to left field to give the Terps an early 1-0 lead.
- Brayden Martin sent an RBI single up the middle pushing Maryland's lead to two runs in the second inning.
- Delaware earned its first run with an RBI single in the bottom frame of the second, trailing by a run.
- Alex Calarco drew a bases-loaded RBI walk, making it a two-run game again in the third. Sam Hojnar advanced home on a wild pitch and Kevin Keister reached home plate on a sacrifice fly from Martin. Michael Iannazzo belted an RBI single to left field, increasing the gap. Jordan Crosland continued the dominant inning for Maryland, crushing a two-run no-doubter to left field and taking an 8-1 lead.
- The Blue Hens capitalized on multiple fielding errors from Maryland earning three runs in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the lead in half.
- Maryland earned those three runs back in the fifth. Chris Hacopian hit a two-run RBI double and E. Hacopian followed with an RBI single to give the Terrapins an 11-4 lead.
- Delaware added four runs in the fifth inning trailing only 11-8, highlighted by Josearmando Diaz hitting a two-run homer.
- Diaz hit another home run going back-to-back and cutting Maryland's lead down to a run.
- Logan Berrier closed out the game for the Terps, retiring the final two batters.
