Terps Sweep James Madison In Season Series With 6-4 Win

HARRISONBURG, VA – Maryland baseball swept James Madison in its season series with its 6-4 win at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park on Tuesday. The Terps previously defeated the Dukes, 9-5, at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium on March 19.

Maryland (26-16) earned its 15th comeback win of the season as it manufactured four runs in the top of the fifth inning. The inning was highlighted by Michael Iannazzo's first career home run. The freshman launched a three-run shot to right field to give the Terps its 6-4 lead.

James Madison (24-16), ranked No. 23 in RPI, went scoreless for the remaining five innings as Kenny Lippman and Logan Berrier came out of the bullpen and supplied dominant outings. Berrier went the final three innings with three strikeouts and earned his third save of the season. He allowed just one hit. Lippman pitched 3.2 innings in relief and struck out four batters while giving up two hits and one run. He earned his second win of the year. The Terps now have seven three-inning saves on the season.

Chris Hacopian was responsible for the other run in the fifth inning. He hit his team-leading 10th home run of his freshman season. He finished the night 3-for-4 and hit a home run in each game against the Dukes.

Sam Hojnar recorded an RBI single and a run. Jacob Orr registered multiple hits.

The Terps picked up their 36th head-to-head win against the Dukes to lead the all-time series. Maryland also snapped James Madison's nine game home winnning streak.

Iannazzo On His First Career Home Run
"I was just looking for a good pitch to hit. Got one, a sider down and in first pitch, something I like to hit. [I] put a pretty good swing on it. I think a lot of people were pretty surprised. I haven't really hit too many out at all in practice or anything. So, just definitely felt great when I got in there."

Swope's Take
"It was just a good bounce back, I gave the guys credit after the game," head coach Matt Swope said. "The energy was great from our guys and we ended up having a big swing by Mikey right there and then Logan Berrier did a fantastic job coming in right there slamming the door."
