
Jaron Smith Wins Last Chance Open Championship, Qualifies For U.S. Olympic Team Trials

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Former Maryland wrestling standout Jaron Smith took home first place at 125 kg on Sunday, April 7 at the deep and talented Last Chance Olympic Team Trials Qualifier. The championship makes Smith eligible for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
Smith won a decision over former Indiana foe Jacob Bullock, 6-5, to win the championship. In his semifinal bout, he pinned top-seeded Jordan Wood (Lehigh Valley WC/New York AC).
Smith wrestled at the University of Maryland for eight seasons in three different weight classes. He was an NCAA Qualifier in 2022 and 2023 under head coach Alex Clemsen.
Following yesterday's results in Fairfax, the complete 231-athlete field for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Wrestling has been finalized. The trials will take place in the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pa., April 19-20 on USA Network and Peacock.
