Terps Drop Series Finale At Boston College, 2-1

CHESTNUT HILL, MA – Maryland baseball was defeated by Boston College, 2-1, in game three at Brighton Baseball Field on Sunday.

Boston College (22-27) secured a walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth. Nick Wang hit a solo home run to bring in the go-ahead run.

Maryland (34-19) trailed 1-0 until the top of the eighth inning when Chris Hacopian hit a solo home run. It was the his 14th homer of the season, which is the third most by a freshman in program history. He also recorded multiple hits, going 2-for-3. 

  Freshman Evan Smith started on the mound and pitched a career-high six innings. He struck out five batters and allowed just four hits and one earned run. Andrew Johnson pitched the final two innings and struck out two batters while also only allowing one earned run.  

Sam Hojnar (2-for-4) was the other Terp to record multiple hits. 


Breaking Down The Action 
  • Boston College claimed its first lead of the weekend by leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. They scored on an RBI single, but Eddie Hacopian threw out a runner at home plate for the final out.
  • Evan Smith retired nine consecutive batters and 14 of the last 15 batters. Maryland entered the sixth inning still trailing 1-0. 
  • Chris Hacopian hit a solo home run to left field in the eighth to tie the game at 1-1. 
  • Nick Wang homered in the bottom of the ninth to secure a walk-off win.

  • Chris Hacopian has 14 home runs, the third-most by a freshman in Maryland history. He is chasing second place Maxwell Costes, who had 15 in 2019.
