COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland baseball is back at The Bob as it closes out the regular season against Penn State. The two teams last met during the 2023 season in State College, with the Terps taking two out of the three games. Maryland leads the all-time series with a record of 21-16. All three games will stream on B1G+ and air on the Maryland Baseball Network.
*Due to inclement weather forecasted for Saturday, Maryland will now play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1 PM. Game two will start approximately 45 minutes following the conclusion of game one. Senior Day festivities will take place before the start of game one of the doubleheader.
Where We Are
- Maryland (34-19, 10-11 B1G) enters the series after winning the road series against Boston College.
- The Terps swept the doubleheader on May 11, led by a complete game four-hit performance by Omar Melendez in the game one 8-1 win. The Terps would score six runs in the first inning to take a lead they would not relinquish.
- In game two, the Terps would score four runs in the fourth and get a quality start from Logan Koester to get a 5-3 win and clinch a series win.
- Game three was a pitchers duel, which saw freshman Evan Smith go six innings and strikeout five in a 2-1 loss. Chris Hacopian hit his 14th home run of the season in the game three loss, putting him one behind Maxwell Costes for the second-most home runs in a freshman season at Maryland.

- Maryland holds a slight advantage in the overall series with a 21-16 record. The two teams last met during the 2023 season, with the Terps taking two of three on the road in the weekend series.
About The Nittany Lions
- Penn State (23-22, 9-12 B1G) took its previous series over Rutgers at home. The Nittany Lions won game one 7-6 behind a walk-off RBI single by Grant Norris.
- Penn State dropped game two of its home match-up with Rutgers, coming out on the wrong side of a 7-1 game. The Nittany Lions got their second walk-off win of the weekend in its final game of the series as part of a four-run ninth inning in a 11-10 win.
- J.T. Marr leads the team in both batting average (.416) and RBI (46) this season. Mar's .416 batting average is the second-highest in the Big Ten, and ranks ninth in the country. Grant Norris leads the team with 14 home runs, which is tied for the second-most home run in the conference. Travis Luensmann leads the team in wins this season with five.
The Cardiac Terps
- A moniker bestowed to the team this season for its late game rallies. The Terrapins have won 11 games in their final at bats:
- Maryland has outscored its opponents by a wide margin in late inning situations.
- In the eighth inning or later, The Terps are outscoring their opponents by a margin of 76-40.
- The late-inning dramatics don't stop there, with the Terps also having 18 comeback wins so far this season.
- The Terps have scored three or more runs in the eighth and ninth innings eight times this season. The most in the eighth inning came in their 14-3 win over Mount St. Mary's on February 20 when they scored six-runs in the eighth inning. Their second-most runs in either inning came in their most recent win over James Madison, where the Terrapins erupted for a five-run bottom of the eighth to break a 4-4 tie. The Terps had another five-run inning in their come from behind win over Michigan on Friday, Mar. 29. Four of the five runs scored in the Michigan comeback were also scored with two outs.
Kevin Keister came up big for the Terps on April 7 with a walk-off single to give them a 6-5 win. This was the fourth walk-off for the Terps on the season, while also their 10th win in their final at-bat and 13th comeback win on the year.
Agent zero
- One of the bright spots in the bullpen for the Terps has been Longwood transfer Logan Berrier. The redshirt senior has a 7-1 record with seven saves, a 2.85 ERA, 36 strikeouts, in 41 innings across 19 appearances.
- Berrier has seven wins and seven saves on the season, both of which rank in the top 40 nationally. Berrier's seven saves lead the Big Ten, while his seven wins are tied for the second-most in the conference.
- Berrier began the season with a 7-0 record, becoming the first Terps pitcher to start a season with a record of 7-0 or better since Kansas City Royals prospect Ryan Ramsey began the 2022 season with a 10-0 record.
Logan Berrier has had a strong start to his Terrapins career. The righty leads the team with a 7-1 record and has a 2.85 ERA. Berrier's seven wins are tied for the second-most in the Big Ten.
You Only Need One
- A team with a penchant for the dramatic, the Terrapins currently hold a 13-5 record this season in one-run games. The 13 wins the Terps have this season is a program record for wins in one-run games in a single-season.
- The Terps added their fourth walk-off win on Sunday in a 6-5 win over Indiana. This was their second walk-off of the week, with the other coming in in their 13-12 win over UMBC on April 3. The other two walk-offs for the Terps came in their Big Ten opening series against Michigan State where they got wins of 7-6 on March 22 and 5-4 on March 24.
- The Terps have eclipsed their win total in one-run games from last season, with them holding a record of 7-4 on such occasions in 2023.

Brayden Martin has been a key force in those one-run games, as the freshman has two walk-offs on the year that have led to Terrapin wins.
Not You Average Freshman
- Chris Hacopian has been a mainstay in the Maryland lineup for the entire season. The freshman infielder has started in 49 games this season, hitting for a .320 average with 13 home runs and 37 RBI.
- Hacopian is beginning to climb up the program record books for a freshman. The most recent being his 13 home runs this season. Hacopian's 13 home runs broke a tie between him with Kyle Rockefeller for the third most home runs in a freshman season in program history, and the most since Maxwell Costes' 15 home runs in 2019.
- Hacopian is also making his way up the freshman RBI charts at Maryland. Hacopian's 37 RBI on the year are tied with the Marty Costes for the sixth-most for a freshman in program history.

Chris Hacopian has been an important piece of the Terrapins' season, and is starting to make his way up the Maryland freshman lists. Chris hit his 14th home run of the season against Boston College on May 12, putting him one away from tying Maxwelll Costes for the second-most home runs in a freshman season at Maryland
Walk It Out
- As a team, the Terrapins have walked a total of 257 times this season. Their 257 walks currently rank as the fifth-most in the Big Ten.
- Two Terps rank in the top 10 in the Big Ten in walks this year, with junior Eddie Hacopian tied for sixth in the conference with 36. Next is senior and team captain Kevin Keister, whose 34 walks on the year which is tied for 10th in the Big Ten in the Big Ten.
