COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The Maryland baseball program had five players receive Big Ten awards, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Eddie Hacopian and
Sam Hojnar earned First Team All-Big Ten honors, while
Logan Berrier and
Chris Hacopian received second team honors.
Chris Hacopian was also named to the conference's all-freshman team and
Jacob Orr took home Maryland's Sportsmanship Award.
Eddie Hacopian finished the regular season with a team leading .377 batting average and 83 hits, while adding 16 doubles, nine home runs, and 51 RBI. Hacopian's .377 batting average was the third highest in the conference during the regular season, while his 83 hits were the third-most in the Big Ten. Hacopian started all 56 games for the Terrapins this season at first base.
Sam Hojnar finished the regular season with a .275 batting average, 15 doubles, a triple, and led the team with 16 home runs and 57 RBI. Hojnar's 16 home runs were tied for the third-most in the Big Ten, while his 57 RBI are the fifth-most in the conference. Hojnar started all 56 games for the Terps, with the redshirt senior being the primary starter at second base.
Logan Berrier finished the season with a 7-1 record, seven saves, a 2.81 ERA and 38 strikeouts. The North Las Vegas, Nevada native finished tied for the third-most wins in the Big Ten, while his seven saves were the second-most in the conference. Berrier's seven wins are also the 17th-most in program history in a single-season, while his seven saves are tied for the ninth-most for a Maryland pitcher.
Chris Hacopian capped off a strong freshman campaign, finishing with a .325 average, 72 hits, 10 doubles, a triple, 15 home runs and 42 RBI. Hacopian's 15 home runs are tied for the second-most for a Maryland freshman, while his 42 RBI are tied for the fourth-most for a freshman in program history. Hacopian's 15 home runs were also tied for the fifth-most in the conference.
Junior Jacob Orr earned Maryland's sportsmanship award, given to a player who has distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Orr set career highs in games played (56) and games started (48) in the regular season. The junior outfielder also had a career high 46 hits on the season and tied his career high with three home runs.
Maryland closed out the regular season with 34 wins, which is tied with the 2002 season for the sixth-most in program history. Head coach Matt Swope won the most games for a Maryland coach in their first year at the helm, passing John Szefc (2013-17) who held the previous record with 30 wins.
