COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Two members of the Maryland softball team have been named Academic All-District, as announced by College Sports Communicators. The 2024 Academic All‐District Team recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Representing the Terrapins is senior outfielder
Megan Mikami and graduate outfielder
Jaeda McFarland.
McFarland was also selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members.
To be considered for a CSC Academic All-District Team, undergraduate student nominees must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution. They also must have competed in 90 percent of the institution's games/contests played OR must start in at least 66 percent of the games/contests. Graduate student-athletes must have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average as both an undergraduate and a graduate student.
Mikami was named the 2024 Big Ten Sportsmanship award honoree this season and finished the season fourth on the team in batting average (.292). Mikami is the program's all-time leader in stolen bases with 77. Mikami was also awarded the 2024 Charles H. Beebe Award from the University of Maryland. This award is given to the female student-athlete graduating with the highest GPA in her class.
McFarland was named to the 2024 All-Big Ten First Team and All-Defensive Team this past season. McFarland would finish the season first on the team in batting average (.356) and first on the team with triples (8). McFarland was also the recipient of the 2023 IA FAR Academic Excellence Award. This award is given to student-athletes who graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.80 or above.
