Pro Terps Baseball Report (Mid-June Update)

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- As we get into the middle of June, we go back to the professional ranks to see how our former Terps are performing in the big leagues. There have been a lot of changes since the last update, including some promotions and some great play from across all levels of baseball.
 
MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL (MLB)
LAMONTE WADE JR., SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
LaMonte Wade Jr. continues to be sidelined by a hamstring injury he picked up as the end of May. Before the injury, the first baseman was hitting for a .333 average with two home runs and 17 RBI. Wade continued a trend he saw during the 2023 season, having one of the better on-base percentages in the league. Before going on the sehelf, Wade had an on-base percentage of .470 with 33 walks to just 35 strikeouts.

BRANDON LOWE, TAMPA BAY RAYS
After returning from an injury the sidelined him early in the season, Lowe is back to being a consistent force in the rays lineup. Since coming back into the team, Lowe has raised his average 47 points, while hitting three home runs and driving in 15 runs.
JOSE CUAS, CHICAGO CUBS

Cuas has competed between Chicago and Iowa during the 2024 season, having made nine appearances with the big league club. Cuas has been with the Triple A club for the month of June, making four appearances with a save and striking out seven

KEVIN SMITH, NEW YORK YANKEES
After beginning the season in AAA with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, Kevin Smith got the call-up the the mojor league squad. Smith made his 2024 debut with the Yankees April 14 before making his second appearance on May 26. Smith returned to AAA on May 28, and since his return is batting .333 with two doubles and a home run in nine games.
MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL (MILB)
ADAM KOLAREK, LOS ANGELES ANGELS
Since our last update, Kolarek continues to make appearances for the Triple A Salt Lake Bees. Kolarek has made  three appearances for the Bees following our last update, throwing an 1.1 innings abd striking out a batter.
 
NICK DUNN, ST. LOUIS CARDINALS
Dunn continues to swing a hot bat for the Memphis Redbirds. In the month of June, Dunn is batting a scintillating .455 with a two doubles, a triple, and six RBI.  Adding to the impressive stat-line for Dunn, he has not struck out in 11 consecutive games dating back to May 31. On the season, Dunn has a .341 batting average, seven doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 14 RBI.
HUNTER PARSONS, NEW YORK METS
Parsons has bounced between AA and AAA during the 2024 season, making five appearances at both stops and making one start in AAA. Parsons picked up an injury earlier in the month and was recently transferred to the 60-day injury list. Across both AA and AAA during the 2024 season, Parsons has a 1-1 record, striking out 19 in 12 innings of work. 

SEAN BURKE, CHICAGO WHITE SOX
Burke has made two more starts for Charlotte after returning from a rehab assignment, further removing himself from an injury that ended his 2023 and kept him on the shelf for the early part of the 2024 season. Still working on building up his stamina at this point in his return, Burke has thrown 10.1 innings in his return to the Queen City. In those 10.1 innings, Burke has struck out 15 total batters. JOHN MURPHY, CINCINNATI REDS
Murphy's has continued his strong start to the 2024 season in High A. In the month of June, Murphy has thrown five innings of relief, picking up one save, allowing just two hits, striking out three, and has allowed no runs. This run has allowed Murphy to drop his season-long ERA to 1.72, to pair with a 1-0 record with two saves, 12 strikeouts, and is holding opposing hitters to a .214 batting average.

BENJAMIN COWLES, NEW YORK YANKEES
Not many people are having the 2024 season the Benjamin Cowles is for the Double A Somerset Patriots. Cowles is ranking among some of the best hitters in the Eastern League through the season's first 63 games. Cowles ranks in the top five in the Eastern League in doubles (20, 2nd), hits (65, 4th), triples (3, 4th), and batting average (.301, 5th). In addition to the aforementioned stats, Cowles has four home runs, 33 RBI, and a .378 on-base percentage.
RYAN RAMSEY, KANSAS CITY ROYALS
Ramsey has been spectacular for the High-A Quad City River Bandits. Working primarily out of the bullpen for the River bandits, Ramsey has recently moved back into the starting rotation. Ramsey has made two starts in the month of June, and had a strong start in his last outing back on June 9th. Ramsey threw five innings, allowing one run on three hits and struck out tfour batters. Ramsey is in his second season with the River Bandits, making 10 appearances with three starts, throwing 34.1 innings with 40 strikeouts, 1.08 WHIP, and holding opposing hitters to a .176 average

MAXWELL COSTES, BALTIMORE ORIOLES
Costes continues to perform for the Aberdeen Ironbirds after returning to the team on May 14. Costes has begun to pick it up with the bat in the month of June, batting for a .273 average with a home run and five RBI. Costes hit his first homer of the season for the Ironbirds back on June 7th as a part of a perfect 4-4 game.
MARTY COSTES, FLORIDA MARLINS
Costes continues to make a name for himself in the Florida Marlins organization. Costes has played in 50 games for the Triple A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, with four doubles, three home runs, and 19 RBI.
 
TROY SCHREFFLER JR., PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
Schreffler Jr. continues to navigate his first season with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws. Schreffler Jr. helped lead a comeback win for the BlueClaws, going 3-3 with a double and two RBI. In his first season, Scheffler Jr. has a .242 average, six doubles, three triples, three home runs, and 13 RBI.
CHRIS ALLEYNE, LOS ANGELES DODGERS
Alleyne is in the midst of his frist season in Double A with the Tulsa Drillers. The left fielder has been a consistent force for the Drillers in his first season, as he has played in 40 games. In those 40 games, Alleyne is hitting for a .284 average, with seven doubles, a triple, four home runs, and 18 RBI.
MATT SHAW, CHICAGO CUBS
After an amazing start to his professional career, which ended with a league title, Shaw is now in his first full season of professional baseball. After finishing the season with the AA Tennessee Smokies, Shaw has begun the 2024 season with the team. Shaw continues to be one of the better prospects in baseball, as he is ranked as the third-best prospect in the Cubs organization and the 42nd overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline. This season, Shaw has six doubles, two triples 6 home runs, 24 RBI, and has stolen 17 bases.
NICK LORUSSO, NEW YORK METS
Nick Lorusso is having quite the season in the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones. Lorusso currently leads the Cyclones with nine home runs on the campaign and ranks in the top ten in the South Atlantic League with 34 RBI. Lorusso also has 11 doubles, three triples, and has walked 31 times wihich ranks in the top 15 of the South Atlantic League.
JASON SAVACOOL, ST. LOUIS CARDINALS
Savacool has had two quality starts since our last update earlier this month. Savacool has thrown 10.2 innings across his las two starts, striking out 11 batters and pitching to a 2.65 ERA. In his most recent start on June 16, Savacool struck out seven batters and allowed only three hits in five innings of work. In his second season in the minors, Savacool has a 1-3 record, with a 4.98 ERA, 42 strikeouts, and is holding opposing hitters to a .232 batting average

NICK DEAN, CHICAGO CUBS

Dean has conitnued his amazing start to his professional career in 2024. Dean carries a 5-0 record across 12 appearances and eighth starts across Low-A and High-A. Since moving up to the High-A South Bend Cubs, Dean has a 3-0 record with an outstandung 1.88 ERA, 20 strikeouts and a sub-1.00 WHIP at 0.79. To go along with his full 5-0 record across both Low and High-A, Dean has a 2.12 ERA, 56 strikeouts in 51 innings with an oppsoing batting average of .190 and a 0.88 WHIP.
NIGEL BELGRAVE, FLORIDA MARLINS

Belgrave like Dean is also keeping up the great start to his 2024 season. Since being moved up to High-A Beloit, Belgrave has a 2-1 record, two saves, with a 2.95 ERA, and 20 strikeouts across 18.1 innings. Spread across both Low and High-A, Belgrave has a 3-1 record with a 1.97 ERA, and 37 strikeouts through 32 innings of work.
LUKE SHLIGER, SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
Shliger continues to patrol the backstop for the San Jose Giants, as he has seen action in 41 games on the season. On June 14, Shliger provided magic for the Giants, as he brought home the winning run in a walk-off 6-5 win in extras. On the season, Shliger has nine doubles and three triples to go along with 13 RBI.
TOMMY KANE, SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
After having a string start to the season at San Jose with his Terps teammate Luke Shliger, Kane earned the call-up to High-A Eugene on June 11. In his 15 appearances at Low-A San Jose, Kane pitched to a 2-2 record with two saves, while compiling a 2.31 ERA, while striking out 27 batters in 23.1 innings of work. Kane has made two appearances with the High-A Eugene Emeralds, throwing 4.1 innings with five strikeouts and just two hits allowed.
