COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland Baseball freshman
Chris Hacopian picked up yet another postseason honor, as he was named a Second Team Freshman All-American by Perfect Game. Hacopian is the first Terrapin to take home Freshman All-American honors since
Matt Shaw in 2021.
Hacopian finished the 2024 season with a .325 batting average with 10 doubles, a triple, 15 home runs, and 42 RBI. Hacopian's 15 home runs are tied for the second-most for a Maryland freshman in program history, tied with Maxwell Costes who hit 15 home runs in 2019. Hacopian also moved into the top five in program history for RBI for a freshman, as his 42 RBI are tied for the fourth-most to tie Brandon Lowe who accomplished the feat in 2014. Hacopian played and started in 55 games on the season, and his .325 batting average and 72 hits were tied for the second-most on the season. Hacopian's 15 home runs were tied for the seventh-most in the Big Ten.
In addition to these honors, Hacopian received multiple awards from the Big Ten. Hacopian was named Second Team All-Big Ten and was also named to the Big Ten's All-Freshman Team. Hacopian became the first Terps freshman to be named to either all-conference since Maxwell Costes received First Team All-Big Ten honors in 2019. Hacopian also became the second-consecutive Terp to be named to the conference's all-freshman team, with Kyle McCoy receiving all-freshman honors following the 2023 season.
The Terrapins finished the 2024 season with 34 wins, tying the 2002 season for the sixth-most wins in program history. Head Coach Matt Swope also set the program record for most wins for a first-year coach, passing John Szefc who set the previous record with 30 wins back in 2013.
