Hacopian Adds Baseball America Freshman All-America Honors

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland freshman Chris Hacopian was selected to Baseball America's Freshman All-America Second Team. For Hacopian, this is the third freshman all-American recognition for the 2024 season.

Hacopian started and played in 55 games this season for Maryland primarily at third base. The righty posted a .325 batting average with 10 doubles, a triple, 15 home runs, and 42 RBI. He finished the campaign with a .578 slugging percentage and a .431 on-base percentage, finishing the season tied for third on the team in walks with 30. Hacopian's 15 home runs are tied for the second-most for a Maryland freshman in program history, tied with Maxwell Costes who hit 15 home runs in 2019. Hacopian also moved into the top five in program history for RBI for a freshman, as his 42 RBI are tied for the fourth-most to tie Brandon Lowe who accomplished the feat in 2014. His .325 batting average and 72 hits were tied for the second-most on the season. Hacopian's 15 home runs were tied for the seventh-most in the Big Ten.

This adds to a growing list of accolades following the 2024 season for Hacopian. He was recently named a Second Team Freshman All-American by both D1Baseball and Perfect Game.  Hacopian was named Second Team All-Big Ten and was also named to the Big Ten's All-Freshman Team. Hacopian became the first Terps freshman to be named to either all-conference since Maxwell Costes received First Team All-Big Ten honors in 2019. Hacopian also became the second-consecutive Terp to be named to the conference's all-freshman team, with Kyle McCoy receiving all-freshman honors following the 2023 season.

Maryland is coming off a 2024 season where it tied for the sixth-most wins in program history with the 2002 with 34 wins. Head coach Matt Swope helped lead the Terps to their most wins under a first-year coach. Swope overtook the previous record for most wins for a first-year head coach held by John Szefc (2013-17), who led the program to 30 wins during the 2013 season.
