Terps Add Memphis Transfer Jayhlon Young For 2024-25 Campaign

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Memphis transfer Jayhlon Young has officially joined the Maryland men's basketball program as announced by head coach Kevin Willard today. The addition of the redshirt-senior guard finalizes the Terps' roster for the upcoming season.

"Jayhlon is an experienced guard who will give us depth and is a strong defensive player," said Willard. "He has the ability to get to the rim and is an athletic rebounder."

Young played the 2023-24 season at Memphis after spending the previous season at UCF. His collegiate career began at Grambling State in 2019-20 before he then played two seasons at Baton Rouge Community College.

Last season, the 6-foot-2, 175-pound guard played in 27 games for the Tigers averaging 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds. He shot 43.4 percent from the field and 30.8 from beyond the arc. At UCF, he played in 33 games, starting 12, during the 2022-23 season. He averaged 4.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. He scored a career-high 17 points against Florida State and had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds against SMU.

At Baton Rouge, the Dallas, Texas native averaged 13.1 points as a redshirt freshman in 2020-21 and 15.9 points as a redshirt sophomore in 2021-22.

The Terps' returning players are highlighted by rising senior Julian Reese, rising sophomore DeShawn Harris-Smith, and fifth-year senior Jordan Geronimo. Maryland has one of the top incoming transfer classes in the Big Ten: Ja'Kobi Gillespie (Belmont), Selton Miguel (South Florida), Rodney Rice (Virginia Tech) and Tafara Gapare (Georgia Tech) in addition to Young. The Terps have also welcomed five-star McDonald's All-American Derik Queen (Baltimore) and four-star guard Malachi Palmer (Harrisburg, Pa.).

Season tickets for the 2024-25 season are now on sale starting at $199. Maryland Young Alumni (those who graduated within the last five years) receive a 48 percent discount on season tickets, while current Maryland Parents who have a student enrolled for the year are eligible for a 20 percent discount on two season tickets.
