COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland opens the 2024 campaign as it takes on Lehigh on the road in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. This match is just the second meeting for the two programs, with the last coming in 2007, a 2-0 Maryland victory.

The Terrapins enter the 2024 season returning most of their production from a season ago. Ava Morales, who was the team's leading goalscorer in 2023, returns for her junior season. Lisa McIntyre, who tied for the second-most goals for the Terps last season, heads into her sophomore campaign. Goalkeeper Liz Beardsley returns after a successful first season in College Park. Defender Kennedy Bell heads into her sophomore year after a freshman season that ended with Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors.
Series History - Lehigh
- The Terrapins and the Mountain Hawks have met once all-time, with this the last meeting happening back in 2007.
- The Terps won the lone match-up between the two teams back in 2007, 2-0. Kaila Sciascia scored both the goals for the Terps in the win. The Terps outshot the Mountain Hawks 23-5 and took eight corner kicks to Lehigh's two.

- Dating back to the 1995 season, the Terps are 20-4-5 in season opening games. The streak started on Sept. 3, 1995 with a 6-0 win for Maryland over Virginia Tech in College Park. In season openers away from home, The Terps are 9-3-2 dating back to 1995.
Kennedy Bell helped extend the Terrapins unbeaten streak in season openers last season in a 0-0 draw against American. In their last seven season openers, the Terps hold a record of 4-0-3.
2023 Season recap
- In year two with Coach Nemzer at the helm, the Terps continued to grow as a program.
- Maryland won three consecutive games before the start of conference play. This was the first time since 2017 that the team had won three straight games.
- Liz Beardsley helped lead the Terps to six clean sheets during the 2023 season. This marked the first time since 2014 that a Terrapins goalkeeper had six or more shutouts in the single-season.
- Defender Kennedy Bell received Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors in 2023, becoming the first Terrapin to be named to the conference's all-freshman team since the program moved to the conference in 2014. In addition, Bell was named by TopDrawer Soccer as one of the top 100 freshmen in the country.
- Forward Kat Parris earned a call-up for the Panamanian National Team. Parris earned her first call-up to the squad during qualifying for the CONCACAF W Gold Cup, helping them qualify for the tournament. Parris earned another call-up into the senior national team for the W Gold Cup, playing in all three of the team's group stage matches with two starts.

Scouting the Mountain Hawks
- Lehigh finished the 2023 season with a 7-5-5 record and a fifth-place finish in the Patriot League. It was the second season for head coach Lauren Calabrese, who helped coach Ryelle Shuey to Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honors.
- The team's leading assister and second-leading goal scorer Ava Schaller is back for the Mountain Hawks. Faith Dobosiewicz was tied with Schaller for the second-most goals for Lehigh, while having three assists to earn Second Team All-Patriot League honors. The Mountain Hawks return a lot of experience for the 2024 season, with 12 players that played in 10 or more games in 2023.
- In goal the Mountain Hawks will see the return of junior Maggie Ousouljoglou, who played in 15 games with 14 starts. Ousouljoglou finished the season with 57 saves and a GAA 1.04. Ousouljoglou finished with a save percentage of 0.792, which was the fourth-best mark in the Patriot League. Ousouljoglou posted a career-best nine saves for Lehigh in the quarterfinals of the Patriot league Tournament.
Nationally-Ranked Class Comes To College Park
- Coach Nemzer and staff continue to bring some of the top talent in the nation into the program. Maryland signed the no. 19 class in the nation according to TopDrawer Soccer.
- The class is highlighted by three top-200 ranked recruits. Forward Gemma Davitian from Bethesda, Maryland was ranked as the No. 58 player in the nation by TopDrawer Soccer, and was an ECNL All-American in 2021 and a two-time Maryland Class 4A State Champion. Kennadie Marchand from Buford, Georgia was ranked as the No. 108 player nationally and No. 6 goalkeeper, and was picked for the 2023 Continental Tire ECNL National Selection Game. Midfielder Ellie Egeland from Long Grove, Illinois was ranked as the No. 191 player nationally and was named to the Chicagoland Soccer, Chicago Tribune and Daily Herald All-State Teams in 2023.
- Emily Lenhard is a local DMV product from Stafford, Virginia who plays in the midfield. Lenhard brings a lot of skill into the Terps side, as the freshman has training experience with the Washington Spirit of the NWSL. Ella Bulava comes to Maryland from Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where she was ranked as the No. 10 player in the Pennsylvania Region by TopDrawer Soccer and was an all-state performer. Sam Winer is another DMV product from Arlington, Virginia where she was a 2023 ECNL All-Conference Second Team selection and helped lead Yorktown to the 2021 Virginia 6A State Championship.
- Dani Gichner from Northbrook, Illinois was one of the top ranked players in the Midwest Region by TopDrawer Soccer, and was a two-time ECNL Second Team All-Conference selection in 2021 and 2023. Kate Hawley is from Rockville, Maryland and helped her club team qualify for the US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championship. Taryn Raibon makes the long trip for the west coast as the defender is from Laguna Niguel, California. Before coming to Maryland, Raibon was U17 ECNL Southwest First Team All-Conference selection.
Terps Welcome Pair of Transfers
- To add to its roster ahead of the 2024 season, Maryland brought in two transfers, both of which come for the Patriot League. Brooke Tracey transferred to Maryland from Bucknell, while Delaney DeMartino joined the team from Loyola (MD).
- Tracey brings multiple years of starting experience into the Terrapins' side The graduate defender has played in 59 games in her career with 54 starts, while playing over 5,100 minutes in her career. Tracey helped lead the Bison to three consecutive Patriot League titles and started in 51 consecutive matches for Bucknell. Tracey was a two-time All-Patriot League selection, including being named All-Patriot League First Team in 2023. Tracey was a key member in the Bucknell defense, helping lead the team to nine shutouts during the 2023 season.
- DeMartino spent two seasons at Loyola (MD) as a forward. DeMartino played 34 games across her two seasons and made 30 starts. DeMartino was second on the team with four goals and also had an assist. DeMartino was named Third Team All-Patriot League in 2023 while helping lead the team to an 11-6 record and a berth in the Patriot league Tournament. DeMartino also helped lead the team to four straight wins in conference play, which was the best start to conference play in program history since 2009.
B1G Players To Watch
- The Big Ten announced their preseason players to watch, with three Terps featured on the list. Liz Beardsley, Kennedy Bell, and Lauren Wrigley represented the team on the conference's list
- Beardsley returns for her senior season and second year as team captain. Beardsley started every game in goal for the Terps in 2023, leading the team in minutes played and posting a career-est right saves in two matches last season.
- Bell begins her sophomore campaign after a freshman season that saw her earn Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors. Bell finished the season with one assist, and was one of only two players to start in every game in 2023
- Wrigley was a stalwart in the midfield for the Terps, starting in 16 games a season ago. She heads into her senior season looking to help lead the team as one of its four captains this season.
