Terps Finish With A 1-1 Draw Against JMU

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland women's soccer (1-1-2) finished with a 1-1 draw against James Madison (1-1-2) at Ludwig Field on Aug. 25.

Freshman midfielder Emily Lenhard scored off a corner kick in the 83rd minute. It was her first career goal, breaking a 0-0 stalemate. However, JMU responded with a goal from Sophia Verrecchia minutes later to tie the game.

Senior goalkeeper Liz Beardsley held a shutout up until the 88th minute. She currently leads the Big Ten Conference with 17 saves. Beardsley recorded just one save in the match, serving as a testament to Maryland's defensive performance.

Maryland's defense, led by Katie Coyle, Tahirah Turnage-Morales, Brooke Tracey and Taryn Raibon, didn't allow a shot opportunity until the 44th minute, seconds before halftime. James Madison finished the game with just two shots on goal.

Nemzer's Take
"I was really happy with how the team came out, obviously missing some key players from the lineup today, so I thought the team adjusted to that," head coach Meghan Ryan Nemzer said. "I was really proud of the players who not only started, but came on and gave big minutes off the bench. I thought they contributed, I thought they gave us energy. That's what we talk about."

Lenhard On Her First Career Goal

"In practice actually that's been kind of part of the plan all along. We kind of figured out that I have that in my locker. I figured, why not try to do it? We' were tied."
