Box Score NEWARK, NJ – No. 8 Maryland women's basketball was defeated by No. 7 Texas, 89-51, at the Coretta Scott King Classic on Monday at Prudential Center. The Terps are now 16-2 overall this season.
The Longhorns amassed a 48-18 halftime lead. The Terps, already shorthanded with the loss of Bri McDaniel, could not bridge the gap in the second half without Shyanne Sellers. The senior guard left the game midway through the second quarter as she was being evaluated for a knee injury. She didn't return for the second half of the contest.
Kaylene Smikle led the Terps with 15 points, improving her streak to 17 games scoring in double figures. She has scored double-digit points in every game after not doing so in Maryland's season opener. The junior guard added four rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block to her stat line.
Christina Dalce added nine points. The senior forward also grabbed four rebounds and collected two steals.
Texas improved to 18-1 overall. Madison Booker led the Longhorns with a season-high 28 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. She scored 20 of her points in the first half alone. The sophomore forward finished her day shooting 13-of-19 from the floor.
