Volleyball Prepares For Rutgers, No. 16 Penn State At Main Court Mania

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The University of Maryland volleyball team enters week two of Big Ten play with a road match up against Rutgers followed by a home showdown with No. 16 Penn State. The Terps will visit Rutgers on Friday, October 3, before returning to College Park to host Penn State on Sunday, October 5, in the main arena.

First serve on Friday is set for 7 p.m. ET, while Sunday's match will begin at 4 p.m. ET. Friday's match will air on Big Ten Plus while Sunday's match will air on Big Ten Network.

  • Maryland holds a 7-5 overall record after dropping its first two Big Ten matches this past weekend against Iowa and Nebraska.
  • Defense has been a strength for the Terps throughout the season. Maryland has recorded 128.5 total team blocks, ranking third in the Big Ten. They also rank second in blocks per set and fifth in digs per set.

  • Against Davidson, she recorded a career-high 20 kills in a win, then followed it up with another career-best 21 kills against Wake Forest a few days later. Defensively, she added 16 digs and eight blocks.
  • Malual becomes the first Terp since Erika Pritchard (2019) to record 20+ kills in a match while hitting over .400.
  • She has quickly made her presence known in the Big Ten, currently ranking ninth the conference with 160 kills this season.

  • Ajack Malual leads the Terps in kills per set with 3.48 after 12 matches. The senior transfer tallied a career-high 21 kills against Wake Forest earlier this season.
  • Lilly Wagner continues to lead the Terps in assists in her first season, averaging 8.26 per set. The redshirt freshman has recorded six double-doubles this season.
  • On the defensive side, Ally Williams is averaging 3.43 digs per set. She posted a career-high 22 digs against Coastal Carolina to open the season.
  • Duru Gökçen anchors the defense for the Terps with 1.30 blocks per set. The sophomore is third in the conference in blocks this season with 60.

  • Rutgers enters week two of Big Ten play with a 9-5 and an 0-2 record in conference play.
  • Offensively, the Scarlet Knights are led by Aspen Maxwell, who has 202 kills this season and averages 4.21 per set.
  • Zora Hardison anchors the defense with a team-best 56 blocks.
  • No. 16 Penn State will travel to College Park after opening the season 7-5. The Nittany Lions own ranked wins over No. 17 USC, No. 14 Kansas, and No. 12 Creighton.
  • Offensively, they are led by Kennedy Martin who has 225 kills this season and averages 5.23 per set. Maggie Mendelson leads the defense with a team-high 48 blocks.
