No. 11 Terps Travel to Charlottesville For Matchup Against No. 3 Virginia

COLLEGE PARK, MD – No. 11 Maryland is on the road on Tuesday for a top five matchup against No. 3 Virginia. The Terps will take on the Cavaliers on the UVA Turf Field at 6 p.m.

  • Virginia is ranked No. 3 in this week's release of the Penn Monto NFHCA coaches poll
  • The Cavaliers are coming off a 2-0 win against Louisville.
  • 2024 First Team All-ACC member Suze Leemans is second on the team with nine points, off three goals and three assists. Junior Mia Abello leads the Cavaliers in goals, scoring five along with two assists.
  • Four different players have earned ACC Players of the Week awards this season. Lauren Sloan, Nilou Lempers, Madison Orsi , and Emma Watchilla.
  • As a team, Virginia is first in the ACC for goals against average (0.49), ranking them first in the nation. They also rank first in save percentage (87.2%) and shutouts per game (0.58).
  • Goalkeeper Nilou Lempers is ranked first in the ACC and second in the nation for goals against average (0.54), and first in the conference for save percentage (86%)
  • The Terps have a 25-6 overall record against the Cavaliers. On the road against Virginia, Maryland is 12-3
  • Last time these two teams met, Virginia pulled away with a 1-0 win in College Park.

  • The Terps won 1-0 in overtime against No. 17 Rutgers on Friday, picking up its first overtime victory of the season.
  • Freshman Maia Adamson scored her first career goal against Rutgers. Annemijn Klijnhout recorded her third assist of the season on the goal.
  • Alyssa Klebasko earned her fifth shutout of the season (16 career shutouts), becoming the third Big Ten goalie to reach this mark.
  • The Terps improve to 19-2 all-time against Rutgers
  • Missy Meharg's message "It feels really good. We've referenced going from good to great, and it's really about putting the quarters together. We found a way in the third and fourth quarters to play really good hockey, and then, of course, a beautiful finish to take the game."

Big Ten Awards
  • Jordyn Hollamon has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times this season (9/2, 9/22, 10/13)
  • Junior goalkeeper Alyssa Klebasko was named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week for September 15
  • Klebasko posted her 13th career shutout as No. 10 Maryland defeated No. 13 Saint Joseph's, 1-0 in College Park. She tied her career-high of six saves in the 3-1 win over Penn and Allowed one goal in 120 minutes of action on the weekend (Sept. 14), helping Maryland improve its all-time record at the Terrapin Invitational to 22-2
  • Junior Josie Hollamon was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the week on October 13
  • Josie picked up her first conference honors this season. She scored the game winning goal against No. 10 Iowa off a penalty corner in the 47th minute. She also recorded her first defensive save of the year to help the Terps secure the 2-1 win over the Hawkeyes

  • Three Terps will compete on the U.S. U-21 Women's National Team in the Junior World Cup as announced by USA Field Hockey head coach Ange Bradley
  • Maci Bradford, Alyssa Klebasko, and Josie Hollamon are three of the 18 athletes representing the United States in Santiago, Chile this December.
  • Bradford and Klebasko were both on the U.S. U-21 Women's National Team that went to Paraguay for the Junior Pan American Games. They brought home a silver medal.
  • Hollamon went to Uruguay over the summer with the U.S. Women's National Team for the Pan American Cup and also brought home a silver medal.

SENIOR DAY
  • Senior Day is November 2nd in College Park. The Terps play their last regular season game at home against Northeastern at 11 a.m.
  • The Maryland field hockey team has four seniors this year that will be recognized before the game. 
  • Ava Trexler, Ericka Morris-Adams, Leah Horwitz, and Fleur Knopert
