Oluchi Okananwa Scores 21 In No. 10 Terps' 83-75 Exhibition Loss To No. 9 NC State

The Duke transfer made a mark in her first minutes with Maryland as the Terps gained experience and chemistry on the road.

GREENSBORO, NC – The No. 10 Terps took on the No. NC State Wolfpack on Sunday in a road exhibition contest as a part of the The Bad Boy Mowers Series Exhibition. Maryland stood strong in the early test, using its depth and new faces, but a late Wolfpack run gave NC State a narrow 83-75 win.

The first half featured seven lead changes and a flurry of runs. NC State led by three after 10 minutes of play, but 13 second-quarter points from Oluchi Okananwa (21 points, seven rebounds) helped the Terps take a 45-43 lead into the break.

Maryland took advantage of 13 bench points in the first half as the Terps flexed their depth. They finished with 28 total points from their bench on Sunday.

Saylor Poffenbarger picked up a double-double on Sunday with 13 points and 13 rebounds. She recorded five double-doubles a season ago with 12 double-digit performances.

The Wolfpack used a strong third quarter to take a two-point lead into the final frame despite seven third-quarter points from Poffenbarger. The Terps were efficient from the free-throw line on Sunday, shooting 19-24.

Addi Mack (15 points, seven rebounds, four assists) took control of the fourth quarter, scoring nine points in the final frame as the Terps retook control of the game. A late NC State push, however, saw the pendulum's final swing go the way of the Wolfpack as they held on for a 83-75 win.

The Terps demonstrated that they can hang with elite teams on Sunday and flexed their depth as 12 players recorded minutes. Maryland also found early-season physicality to collect 43 rebounds to NC State's 40. Maryland has one more exhibition in College Park before the season truly gets started on Nov. 3.
