Payne Paves Way In Terps 84-64 Victory Over Alcorn State

Maryland picked up its first home win of the season as Pharrel Payne recorded his eighth-career 20+ point performance.
COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland led wire-to-wire in its 84-64 victory over Alcorn State (0-4) as the Terps (2-1) picked up their first home win of the season at the XFINITY Center on Tuesday night.
Pharrel Payne led the Terps with 22 points and seven rebounds in his 99th career game. Andre Mills also added 16 points on a trio of threes in the win. Four Terps finished in double-figures as Maryland stayed unbeaten all-time against the Braves.
Maryland worked the Braves under the hoop, outrebounding Alcorn State 37-25 and picking up 34 points in the paint. The Terp scored 26 points on 21 forced turnovers in their 20-point win.
How It Happened:

The Terps held Alcorn State scoreless for a nearly seven-minute period in the first half while they went on a 13-0 run to put the contest out of question early. The run was Maryland's second of 10+ points of the season and put the Terps ahead 20-7 at the 11:12 mark in the first half. - Payne got the scoring started with a layup in the opening minute.
- Isaiah Watts created an early three-point play.
- David Coit hit the Terps' first three of the night to build a five-point lead.
- An ally-oop from Darius Adams to Payne put Maryland up 18-7.
- A 13-0 Terps run put UMD ahead 20-7 at the 11:12 mark of the opening half.
- Mills drained a three-pointer to get the Terps to the 25-point mark.
- Another 7-0 run ballooned the lead to 29-10.
- Payne picked up his 10th points of the night with a pair of free throws just 12 minutes into the contest.
- Maryland took a 33-27 lead into the break as Payne recorded 14 first-half points.
