COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Maryland Women's Tennis team will participate in two tournaments this week: the ITA East Sectional Championships, hosted by the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, and the UNF Fall Invitational, in Jacksonville, Florida.
The ITA Sectionals will begin on Thursday, November 6th, and the UNF invite will start on Friday, November 7th. These will be the penultimate tournaments of the fall season, preceding the NCAA Championships, which start on Tuesday, November 18th.
The Terps have three qualified members of the team, Emma Ghiradato,
Ema Kovacevic, and
Oliwia Orlinska, going to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The rest of the team will head to Jacksonville, which will include
Magdalena Baniak,
Tamari Gagoshidze,
Aida Eissa,
Diya Challa, and
Katherine Hung.
Ghirardato and Kovacevic are coming off their stellar doubles performance at the ITA Regionals, where they finished second and went 5-1 in doubles throughout the tournament. Orlinska will compete in the singles draw after reaching the quarterfinals in Blacksburg.
The rest of the Terps are also coming off a strong ITA Regionals appearance, all making appearances in the main draw. They will look to wrap up the Terps' strong fall season, competing at the UNF Invite. Participating teams: South Florida, UNF, Virginia Tech, Florida State, UNC-Charlotte, Louisville, Texas Tech, UCF, and Southern Miss.
