COLLEGE PARK, MD – University of Maryland quarterback and freshman All-American candidate
Malik Washington announced Saturday that he will remain with the Terrapin football program.
"Representing this team, this area, means so much to me and my family," said Washington. "This is home and we're going to continue keeping the best athletes from this area here with the Terps. I believe in everyone in our facility and I know we're building something that our fans will be excited about for years to come."
In his first season behind center, Washington has garnered conference and national attention. This season, he was named Big Ten Rookie of the Week twice, selected to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Watch List and named to the On3 Midseason True Freshman All-American Team.Â
"Malik is a Terp through and through and I'm thrilled he's coming back to lead this football team," Maryland Head Coach
Michael Locksley said. "He means so much to this area and this area means so much to him. What we saw from Malik this past season is only the tip of the iceberg. He has such a bright future and he's already started putting the work in towards the 2026 season."

Washington rushed for 164 rush yards against Rutgers, the second most ever by a Terps quarterback in a single game. He also threw for 459 yards in the season finale against Michigan State, marking the second most passing yards in a single game in school history.Â
