Maryland Women’s Basketball to Host Sold Out Field Trip Day on Dec. 19

COLLEGE PARK, MD --  The 7th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (12-0, 1-0 B1G) will host Central Connecticut State (0-10) Friday, Dec. 19 for an 11 a.m. sold out Field Trip Day game at the XFINITY Center. The Terrapins will welcome over 13,000 local school children from over 80 local schools for Field Trip Day.

Fans and staff coming to the XFINITY Center are encouraged to enter campus on Terrapin Trail (directly off Rt. 193 EB) and park in the Terrapin Trail Garage. Fans and staff will be able to enter the arena through Gate E. Additional fan parking is available for free in Lot 11b. Parking will not be open in lots 4B and 9B due to the buses for the school children. Lot UU will be reserved for limited ADA Parking only. Vehicles must have a disabled license plate or placard to enter an ADA accessible parking area. The primary location for ADA Parking is available in the Terrapin Trail Garage. Metered spaces and lots are still metered and are not free. Click here for a campus parking map. 

Season ticket holders can sit in section 114 and rows 14-18 of section 101. 

Maryland Athletics and the University of Maryland offered free admission to local school children, teachers and chaperones for Field Trip Day. Maryland Athletics worked with local educators to provide schools with free lesson plans that correspond with Field Trip Day activities for every grade level. 
 
 

2025-26 STORYLINES

What's UP
  • The Terrapins are coming off of a 91-21 win over Delaware State on Dec. 10 in College Park. Kyndal Walker tied her career high 13 points, Yarden Garzon added her season-high 18 points and Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu picked up her first double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Terps held the Hornets to the lowest point total in Maryland program history at 21 points.

  • Maryland is ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press poll released Dec. 15 and No. 6 in the USA Today Sports WBB Coaches Poll released Dec. 16.

  • The Terps were picked to finish second in the Big Ten, behind just UCLA. USC, Michigan and Ohio State rounded out the predicted top five. 
  • Seniors Yarden Garzon and Kaylene Smikle were named to the 10-player All-Big Ten Preseason Team by both the league's head coaches and media panel. 

  • Head coach Brenda Frese and her staff signed two transfers in All-Big Ten honoree Yarden Garzon (Indiana) and 2025 ACC Tournament Most Outstanding Player Oluchi Okananwa (Duke). The Terrapins also welcome freshmen Lea Bartelme, Addi Mack, Rainey Welson, Nicole Fritea and Marya Boiko to the roster.
  • Maryland will play six teams ranked in the AP preseason poll - No. 3 UCLA, No. 13 Michigan, No. 18 USC, No. 21 Iowa, No. 23 Michigan State and No. 24 Kentucky. The Terps will also play six teams receiving votes in Washington, Ohio State, Princeton, Minnesota, Illinois and Nebraska.
  • Maryland women's basketball is its 55th season and owns a record of 1,162-472 (.711). The Terrapins are No. 11 all-time in NCAA Division I history in winning percentage and No. 9 in all-time victories.

  • The Terps are 224-70 (.762) all-time against their Big Ten opponents.
  • Since joining the Big Ten in 2014-15, the Terrapins are 182-40 (.820) vs. their conference opponents, including their 22-6 record in the Big Ten Tournament.

  • In the 24 years under Frese, the Terps are 193-44 (.814) against their Big Ten opponents.
  • Frese is 207-49 (.809) all-time vs. Big Ten opponents, which includes her time at Minnesota and at Ball State. 
  • Since joining the league in 2014, Maryland is 83-13 (.865) against Big Ten teams at home.
  • Since their first year in the Big Ten, the Terps are 137-6 (.958) when holding their league opponents to 70 points or less. The Terrapins are also 162-18 (.900) when they score 70 points or more.
  • In her one season at Minnesota, Frese led the Gophers to a record of 22-8 overall, 11-5 in Big Ten play and an NCAA Tournament berth. She was named AP National Coach of the Year in April 2002.

  • Head coach Brenda Frese is in her 24th season in College Park. She's led the Terrapins to a record of 619-169 (.786), 14 conference titles, 21 NCAA Tournament bids in 23 postseasons, three Final Fours, seven Elite Eights, 12 Sweet Sixteens and the 2006 NCAA Championship. 
  • Frese owns a career record of 676-199 (.773) over her 27 years as a head coach.
  • Frese was named National Coach of the Year by the AP, The Athletic and ESPN at the end of the 2020-21 season. In October 2021, Frese was the first woman inducted into the Washington DC Metro Basketball Hall of Fame.
  • With the Terrapins' win at Nebraska on Feb. 14, 2021, Frese picked up win No. 500 at Maryland, which makes her the winningest coach in Maryland basketball history. Hall of Fame women's basketball head coach Chris Weller won 499 games in her 27 seasons (1975-02).
