Terps in the NBA: Week 8

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The eighth week of the NBA season is in the books. Let's check in on Maryland's pros - Derik Queen (New Orleans Pelicans), Kevin Huerter (Chicago Bulls), Jalen Smith (Chicago Bulls), Aaron Wiggins (Oklahoma City Thunder) and Jahmir Young (Miami Heat/Sioux Falls Skyforce).

  • Queen has continued to blossom in his rookie season with the Pelicans, raising his averages to 12.7 points per game on 50.4% shooting, along with 6.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest.
  • On Dec. 8 against the Spurs, the Baltimore, Md. native erupted for 33 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and three blocks, becoming the first rookie center in NBA history to record a 30-point triple-double.
  • Queen has moved up to third place on the NBA's Rookie Ladder.
kevin huerter (Chicago bulls)
  • In 20 games played, including eight starts, Huerter is averaging 12.2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 47.4% from the field.
  • He has scored 20 or more points in three games this season and has knocked down four or more three-pointers in three contests.
jalen smith (Chicago bulls)
  • Smith is averaging 9.6 points per game on 47.3% shooting to go along with 5.8 rebounds per game.
  • The former lottery pick has reached double figures in scoring 10 times this season and has recorded double-digit rebounds on three occasions.
  • Smith also posted back-to-back double-doubles earlier in the year, tallying 18 points and 11 rebounds at Cleveland before following it up with 11 points and 12 rebounds against San Antonio.
aaron wiggins (oklahoma city thunder)
  • Wiggins has appeared in 15 games in 2025 after missing most of November due to injury, and he has quickly made his presence felt since returning to the lineup.
  • In six games since his return, Wiggins has reached double figures in scoring three times as the Thunder have posted a 5-1 record.
  • On the season, he is averaging a career-high 12.3 points per game while shooting 46.2% from the field and 41.7% from three-point range.
jahmir young (miami heat/sioux falls skyforce)
  • Jahmir Young has split time this season between the Miami Heat and their G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
  • He has appeared in five games with the Heat, averaging 2.0 points in 5.0 minutes per game.
  • With the Skyforce, the Maryland native has been highly productive, averaging 25.5 points, 6.8 assists, and 6.0 rebounds per game.
