
Terps Fall To Hawkeyes In Big Ten Opener

The Hawkeyes used a big first half from three-point range to defeat Maryland in the Terps’ first conference game.
IOWA CITY, IA — Maryland fell 83-64 on the road to Iowa to open Big Ten play on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawkeyes (8-1, 1-1 Big Ten) seemingly couldn't miss from three-point range in the first half. They built an early lead and used it to earn their first conference win of the season, despite Pharrel Payne's double-double effort for Maryland (6-4, 0-1 Big Ten).
Payne's 17 points and career-high 14 rebounds gave him his second straight double-double, his third of the season and his 11th of his career. He's scored in double figures in all nine games he's played in for Maryland this season and has scored 15+ points in six of them.
Iowa built a first-half lead by starting 7-of-8 from three-point range. The Hawkeyes opened the second half on a 12-2 run to pull away from the Terps on Saturday. Bennett Stirtz led Iowa with 25 points as the Hawkeyes snapped a three-game losing streak to Maryland.
