No. 7 Terps Return Home to Host Delaware State

COLLEGE PARK, MD --  The 7th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (11-0, 1-0 B1G) will host Delaware State (3-7) Wednesday, Dec. 10 in a 6 p.m. matchup at the XFINITY Center. For tickets, click here.

Parking is free after 4 p.m. in lots 9B, 4B, 11B, UU and the Terrapin Trail Garage. Click here for a campus parking map.

Wednesday will be the Terrapins' annual Holiday and Teddy Bear Toss game. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to toss onto the court during halftime. All stuffed animals collected will be donated to Toys for Tots. Fans will have the chance to win prizes if they register their stuffed animals at the marketing table before the game and their stuffed animal lands on a target on the court. Fans can take photos with Santa Testudo on the concourse. 2025-26 STORYLINES

What's UP
  • The Terrapins are coming off of comeback, double overtime 100-99 win at Minnesota Sunday to open Big Ten play. Saylor Poffenbarger scored a career-high 30 points with 10 rebounds and Oluchi Okananwa scored a career-high 25 points. The Terps were down 14 at halftime, then came back to force extra time. They were down 9 with 54 seconds left and ended the game on a 10-0 run, scoring 8 points in 9 seconds to pull off the win. 

  • Maryland is ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press poll released Dec. 8 and No. 6 in the USA Today Sports WBB Coaches Poll released Dec. 2.

  • The Terps were picked to finish second in the Big Ten, behind just UCLA. USC, Michigan and Ohio State rounded out the predicted top five. 
  • Seniors Yarden Garzon and Kaylene Smikle were named to the 10-player All-Big Ten Preseason Team by both the league's head coaches and media panel. 

  • Head coach Brenda Frese and her staff signed two transfers in All-Big Ten honoree Yarden Garzon (Indiana) and 2025 ACC Tournament Most Outstanding Player Oluchi Okananwa (Duke). The Terrapins also welcome freshmen Lea Bartelme, Addi Mack, Rainey Welson, Nicole Fritea and Marya Boiko to the roster.
  • Maryland will play six teams ranked in the AP preseason poll - No. 3 UCLA, No. 13 Michigan, No. 18 USC, No. 21 Iowa, No. 23 Michigan State and No. 24 Kentucky. The Terps will also play six teams receiving votes in Washington, Ohio State, Princeton, Minnesota, Illinois and Nebraska.
  • Maryland women's basketball is its 55th season and owns a record of 1,161-472 (.711). The Terrapins are No. 11 all-time in NCAA Division I history in winning percentage and No. 9 in all-time victories.

  • Maryland has won the rebounding battle in nine of 11 games this season. The Terps are 9-0 this year and 32-2 over the last two years when winning the rebounding battle.
  • Over the last seven seasons, the Terps are 119-7 (94.4%) when they score 80 points or more.  
  • Over the last five seasons, the Terrapins are 86-8 when leading at the half. They are 28-3 over the last two years when leading at halftime.
  • The Terrapins have won 39 straight games when leading at the start of the fourth quarter. They are 75-1 over the last four seasons and 261-3 since they moved to quarters in 2015-16.

TERPS IN THE BIG TEN
  • The Terps are 224-70 (.762) all-time against their Big Ten opponents.
  • Since joining the Big Ten in 2014-15, the Terrapins are 182-40 (.820) vs. their conference opponents, including their 22-6 record in the Big Ten Tournament.

  • In the 24 years under Frese, the Terps are 193-44 (.814) against their Big Ten opponents.
  • Frese is 207-49 (.809) all-time vs. Big Ten opponents, which includes her time at Minnesota and at Ball State. 
  • Since joining the league in 2014, Maryland is 83-13 (.865) against Big Ten teams at home.
  • Since their first year in the Big Ten, the Terps are 137-6 (.958) when holding their league opponents to 70 points or less. The Terrapins are also 162-18 (.900) when they score 70 points or more.
  • In her one season at Minnesota, Frese led the Gophers to a record of 22-8 overall, 11-5 in Big Ten play and an NCAA Tournament berth. She was named AP National Coach of the Year in April 2002.

  • Head coach Brenda Frese is in her 24th season in College Park. She's led the Terrapins to a record of 618-169 (.785), 14 conference titles, 21 NCAA Tournament bids in 23 postseasons, three Final Fours, seven Elite Eights, 12 Sweet Sixteens and the 2006 NCAA Championship. 
  • Frese owns a career record of 675-199 (.772) over her 27 years as a head coach.
  • Frese was named National Coach of the Year by the AP, The Athletic and ESPN at the end of the 2020-21 season. In October 2021, Frese was the first woman inducted into the Washington DC Metro Basketball Hall of Fame.
  • With the Terrapins' win at Nebraska on Feb. 14, 2021, Frese picked up win No. 500 at Maryland, which makes her the winningest coach in Maryland basketball history. Hall of Fame women's basketball head coach Chris Weller won 499 games in her 27 seasons (1975-02).
