COLLEGE PARK, MD - The University of Maryland softball team will head to Austin, Texas for the Bevo Classic hosted by the University of Texas.  The Terps will face off against three different opponents over three days of competition.  The action kicks off Feb. 14 when the Terps open the weekend against UMass at 12:00 p.m. ET.

  • Maryland heads to the Bevo Classic following a 3-2 start to the season in Tempe, Arizona. The Terps made a statement at the Kajikawa Classic, upsetting No. 21 California 6-3 at Alberta B. Farrington Softball Stadium. The victory marked Maryland's first win of the season and the program's 39th all-time win over a ranked opponent. It was also head coach Lauren Karn's third ranked win at Maryland, following shutout victories over No. 25 Oregon and No. 22 Penn State last season.
  • Texas enters the Bevo Classic with a perfect 6-0 record, marking the 12th time in program history the Longhorns have opened the season undefeated through six games. They are led by junior catcher Reese Atwood, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year, who set single-season program records in home runs (23), RBI (90), total bases (163), and slugging percentage (.862) last season. In the circle, Texas turns to sophomore Teagan Kavan, who made a strong impact as a freshman.
  • Texas Tech heads into the Bevo Classic at 5-1, highlighted by wins over No. 16 Nebraska and Penn State in Clearview, Florida. The Red Raiders bring a fresh look to this year's squad, welcoming 20 new players.Texas Tech's lineup includes reigning National Player of the Year NiJaree Canady and Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year Mihyia Davis. Both players were ranked among the nation's top 100, with Canady earning the consensus No. 1 spot.
  • UMass enters the 2025 season after finishing 20-35 overall and 14-12 in A-10 play last year. The Minutewomen made a strong A-10 Tournament run, defeating Fordham and Saint Joseph's before falling in the semifinals to Saint Louis. They are off to a 3-2 start this season, picking up opening-day wins over East Tennessee State and Campbell University.

  • Caitlyn Cornwell leads the way for Maryland, hitting .429 with six hits and two stolen bases.
  • 2024 All-Big Ten Second Team selection Mazie MacFarlane is picking up right where she left off, posting a .313 average with four extra-base hits.
  • Freshman Matti Benson wasted no time making an impact in her college debut, ranking second on the team with a .333 average, one home run, and three RBIs in her first weekend with the Terps.

  • Graduate student Sam Bean made her long-awaited Terps debut this past weekend after missing last season due to injury. She wasted no time making an impact, batting .313 with five hits and two RBIs in her first games in a Maryland uniform.
  • Before joining the Terps, Bean was a standout at Lamar, starting all 105 games of her career and totaling 87 hits, 59 runs, 29 RBIs, and eight home runs.

  • In the circle, Bri Godfrey secured her first win as a Terp, helping Maryland take down Utah 7-5. She made her second start of the weekend with an impressive 6.2-inning outing, allowing just four hits while striking out two.
  • Maryland also notched a statement win over No. 21 California, defeating the Golden Bears 6-3 at the Kajikawa Classic. Julia Shearer shined in the circle, earning her second start in as many games. She tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three to secure the fourth win—and third complete game—of her career.
