Solomon Eye Terp of the Week: Rose Coats

Track & Field

Rose Coats Named Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week

Each week during the 2024-25 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.

This week's Terp of the Week is sophomore Rose Coats of the women's indoor track and field team.

Coats set her second indoor record this season as she captured the program's 3,000-meter crown on Saturday at the Boston University Valentine Invitational. She clocked a time of 9:18.23 to break the 3,000-meter record. The previous record had stood for 41 years held by Carolyn Forde (9:20.92) set in 1984 at the Meadowlands Meet. It was the second-oldest event record still standing in the Maryland all-time top-10 for indoor track.

The sophomore chemical engineering major set the 5,000-meter record earlier this season at the Dr. Sander Scorcher in New York. It's the third school record owned by the sophomore. She set the 6K course cross country record in the fall en route to an appearance in the NCAA Championship race.
