No. 9 Terps Host Georgetown In Tuesday Matinee

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland looks for its first win of the 2025 season when it hosts Georgetown (1-1) in a Tuesday matinee at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex at 4:30 p.m.

Parking:
Fans planning to attend the Maryland vs. Georgetown game Tuesday can pay to park in lot XV1 which is right across the street from the women's lacrosse complex or pay to park on the top level of Regents Drive Garage.  Additionally, after 4:00 p.m. fans can park for free in lot 11B and 9B.  Please be aware of new traffic patterns around campus.

Where We've Been
  • The Terps are coming off a 15-9 loss in their season opener to #6 Syracuse on Feb. 15. Junior Kori Edmonson led the Terrapins with four goals vs. the Orange, while grad student Chrissy Thomas became the 66th Terp in program history to reach the 100-point mark with three assists.
Series history vs. Georgetown
  • This will be Maryland and Georgetown's 32nd meeting all-time, with the Terps holding a 27-4 (.871) advantage.
  • The Terrapins have won the last 14 meetings with the Hoyas, stretching back to a 14-10 win at Georgetown on April 3, 2007. The last Hoya win in the series was 11-10 in College Park on April 5, 2006.
  • The two local squads first met in 1977, a 23-0 Terrapin shutout. The series didn't pick back up until 1995, a 17-7 Maryland road win, and the two teams have met every season since.
  • Maryland and Georgetown have met in the NCAA tournament four times, with the Terrapins holding a 3-1 advantage.

Scouting The Hoyas
  • Georgetown is 1-1 so far in 2025. After a 12-5 win over American in the season opener on Feb. 7, the Hoyas lost 10-9 at home to Towson on Feb. 13.
  • Offensively, Emma Gebhardt returns after leading Georgetown with 41 points in 2024. She has three goals so far in 2025. Gracie Driggs, who led all Hoyas scorers in 2024 with 38 goals, is picking up right where she left off with a team-high four goals in 2025. Marley Starr, who was fourth on the team in points (25-9=34) last season, is the team leader so far with five points on three goals and two assists.
  • Leah Wareheim returns in net for the Hoyas after starting all 18 games last season. So far in 2025, Wareheim has a stellar 6.77 goals-against average with a .516 save percentage.
  • The Hoyas' new head coach is a familiar face for Terrapin fans as long-time Terp assistant coach Caitlyn Phipps was hired to lead the Georgetown program in the offseason.

Thomas Moving Up The Charts
  • With three assists in the 2025 season opener, Chrissy Thomas became just the 66th player in Maryland women's lacrosse history to reach the 100-point mark for her career. Thomas currently has 102 points, one shy of Lisa Pierce (1978-79) for 65th on the all-time list.

  • Head Coach Cathy Reese is in her 19th season at the helm of Maryland women's lacrosse. The winningest coach in program history, Reese is 331-48 (.873) as head coach and has led the Terps to five National Championships, 12 Final Fours, and 22 Conference Championships.
  • Reese is the fifth all-time winningest active head coach and the sixth-winningest coach of all-time in Division 1 women's lacrosse at 361-77 .824). Former Maryland head coach Cindy Timchal is the all-time winningest women's lacrosse coach with 580 wins.
  • Reese has the highest winning percentage of any current Maryland head coach as a Terrapin head coach.
